Whether he enjoys torturing people would be none of my concern. The only thing that would matter is if he got the information that would save the lives of innocents. When it comes down to it, If you have a duty to protect and care for your citizens then if someone is threatening them you have to take care of it whatever the cost.

id still be interested to know where you draw the line. What is the minimum amount of lives saved to justify torture? 1? 10? 100? 1000? 10,000?

I would say yes it is still heard or felt.
By our definitions set within emotion we would perceive said act as evil.of course the term evil can be used as an adjective such as this ‘evil chair’ or whatever.
but i think it is just an emotion.. if we didnt see torture as evil then we wouldnt describe it as evil, therefore it is the impact of our emotions that defines what is ‘evil’
I kinda see your viewpoint, that way of thinking arises from the idea that there is nothing in the world apart from chaos and mathematics and everything that arises out of that, and evil is just an arbritrary pattern of data (ie a thought) arisen out of those physical laws. Which is fair enough.. it’s just wrong ;P (/more opinions)

nonono i dont see emotion as part of the mathmatics or data
it is the way our mind interprets things
i see it as an evolution of the mind that all creatures posess not just humans (you wouldnt have some aggressive dogs and some non aggressive if they had no emotion)
i dont see it as a brick in the wall of physical laws … more of a way we work and survive
June 16, 2009 at 3:30 pm #1201330A true but unless you believe in some sort of spiritual soul, consciousness (and therefore every subset such as emotion) is basically just data.. data constantly changing but still data.
The idea that consciousness is only information is somewhat contrversial (what with religious types) but generally accepted by neuroscientists etc

basically what i said was if someone was gonna kill lots and lots of people then to me torturing them is not an evil thing, they deserve it in my eyes.
i do not have a little system in my brain where im like, you are killing one person under my opinion of what is not evil so torturing you is evil.
if someone killed my fucking family i would torture the fucking shit out of them… am i evil cos of that? i do not think so IN THE FUCKING SLIGHTEST

Just trying to put an end to a debate that isnt going to go anywhere cos its just about opinions at the end of the day.. we have a justice system cos individual people cant agree on punishments.. but if you were supreme overlord you’d get the final say 😉

5 days on and 3 days off would be perfect!
