I’m sort of glad that L’oreal bought the body shop. At least it’s made people realise how wrong Anita Roddick is.
Even before the sale, though the actual products weren’t tested on animals, the ingredients which were bought for a lot of the products were.
Not just this, but they would basically ‘steal’ recipes from small villages and tribes-people in Africa.
The worst ones are the ones that hide behind ‘ethics’ while being greedy.
Of course, being a naturally beautiful person, I’ve never had any need for cosmetics…

I concur.
March 30, 2006 at 2:26 pm in reply to: UK : Scot : is all of Scotland being turned into a call centre? #1069179I know a few years ago, a lot of call-centres moved to India, because of cheap labour, I guess. Friends of mine (in Reading) used to work for the corporate God that is Prudential, and a few of them lost their job because of this. I know that a lot of call cenres have moved out of India, now, so I guess they’ve gone to Scotland.
As far as the accent being calming and trustworthy, I remember when I was growing up, there was a definite standard of ‘BBC English’ which seemed to be Queen’s English, or at least upper middle class London English. Nowdays, it seems that the wider media realise that there are so many people, with so many different accents, that people can relate more to people who speak with a non-southern accent.
I also heard a few years ago, though, (and I don’t know if this is true, so please don’t take offence) that there were call centres being moved to Wales and the North because the labour costs are cheaper than down south. There used to be quite a few call centres round where I am, but now there’s none.
I applied for a job once to answer 999 calls for the ambulance service, and this was in Wokingham (a little middle class town in the South East), but I guess that the central base filters things through.
I’m a bit confused about spring, too.
Today’s a fairly nice day, but there doesn’t really seem to be a definite ‘Spring’ season anymore. Anyone noticed how there’s no Autumn, either?
The leaves on the trees used to get all golden & nice (forgive my hippy ramblings), but now I don’t see it. The trees stay green, then the leaves fall off and it’s winter. There’s no in between bit anymore.
Maybe it’s just that I’m older now and I remember the days of being beaten up by my older brothers and getting buried in massive piles of leaves and hit with sticks, freshly fallen from the autumnal trees.
Oh, the happiness of childhood in the Autumn…….

Only 1592 to account for now, then…
February 17, 2006 at 3:15 pm in reply to: Pirates vs Ofcom, a grimy battle steps up a notch #1068658This is a good article.
I believe in pirate radio stations possibly more than parties themselves. It is a way of bringing underground music into the homes of people who don’t necessarily want to dance in a field or empty buildings.
About 10 or so years ago we were involved in a DnB station – the music was made at one house, but it was transmitted from another to evade any unwanted attention. Much like other stations, it was more than just a pirate station, it was almost a community venture, bringing together a lot of people and giving a lot of information. This was before the CJA, so perties and festivals were advertised freely. Whether this was a good idea or not, I don’t know, but it certainly brought a lot of likeminded people together. It carried on for about 6 months, but had to finish pretty suddenly for one reason or another.
There’s a massive gap in the airwaves which needs to be filled with new music. The only reason I can see that it is illegal is because of the license – there’s no trespassing, no damage nothing that could be considered unsocial. It was only ever for the music.
General Lighting wrote:it annoys me these shows (and the soaps)…..I hope you’re not including Neighbours in this statement. That’s a slice of gritty real life drama that the public NEED to see…
Hello.
I agree with you entirely.
A lot of the people who religously watch this stuff, though, are people who have nothing else to do. It’s all about what constitutes a celebrity anyway – it’s the public that put them on the pedestal in the first place.
I (unashamedly) watched the first Big Brother, which I thought it was fairly interesting, from a scientific standpoint, obviously.
I saw a trailer the other day for Celebrity Ice Skating?!
Remember – more people vote on ‘Stars in their Eyes’ than vote in the general election. I’ve never voted on that show and neither have I met anyone who has. We may be the vocal minority, but the TV schedules are compiled for the fat, lazy, unaware majority. No offence against the fat & lazy, of course…
I dunno, if I was her I’d either be shit scared of going anywhere near a plane ever again or be convinced of my immortality and go do lots of crazy stunts!
Not sure which one, though…
As soon as someone sends me their pictures of the waterfalls, I’ll get some posted – there was a dude with a who’d been to Angel, Niagra and Victoria falls, and he said that Iguacu beats them all. No contest. About a month before we were there, there was a lot of rain, so the water level was way up. We heard from some people who had been there before that this was the most beautiful they’d ever seen it.
For the Inca ruins in Peru, we went as part of a tour which was by far the easiest way of doing it, as some of the routes are pretty treacherous. Some of the ruins are in National Parks and they limit the number of people that can go in everyday, so unless your completely sure what you’re doing, you may not get to see what you want.
The only thing which you HAVE to do in Peru is to go on the Inca trail to see Machu Pichu. You can get the bus to the site if you want, but with the Inca trail, you walk along the sides of the Andes on the original trail, going through and past several ruins. You finally emerge from the Sun Gate where, on solstice day, the sun shines through and lights up the lost city.
We got to the gate and there was a sign saying ‘Welcome to Machu Pichu’ and we couldn’t see it. Suddenly the clouds parted and we were confronted with the most amazing view I have ever seen.
The only thing about visiting all these sights is that you end up having a real downer against the Spanish invaders. I know that the British Empire is hardly blameless in history, going round enslaving people and stealing their treasure, but there is hardly anything left in South America – the conquistadors and the inquisition destroyed it all for being evil. The phrase ‘pot & kettle’ springs to mind. All the history you learn about is just educated guess work.
I could go on & on & on & on about it all, but I think I should just wait till I (hopefully) get some pictures sent to me and then I can share the views with you all.
The best thing about coming home?
Getting a pint of cold Stella!!
My superior planning ability enabled me to only take disposable cameras with me (bought at Heathrow – never do today what you can do tomorrow). Some others there had some pictures that they said they’re going to send, so with a bit of luck they’ll be coming soon.
That’s one of the biggest things I learnt when I was away – not how astounding the mountains are, not how shanty the people are, not how lucky all of us in Europe are, but basically how much easier it would have been to take a digital camera!!
Honestly, I used up 2 whole cameras of the Iguacu falls. I think all the pictures are fantastic, but when I’ve been showing them, it goes along the lines of:
A waterfall
Another water fall
Yet another waterfall
Another fucking waterfall
Ooh, some mountains.
A waterfall.
etc.OK, so it may not be quite like that, but as good as.
The worst bit was coming back to work. After weeks of brilliance, all you get is “Hello. Have a nice holiday? Anyway, if you could just take a look at this for me…” then work begins and the trip becomes just a distant memory.
Next stop, the Himalayas…
Hang on – I’ve just read a post by me that I didn’t write. It’s all getting a bit odd here…
The post I meant to write was this –
Hello.
The only organisation I know (which means that it certainly isn’t the only one that exists) is VSO.
A friend of mine used to work for them afer volunteering a lot herself, and said that it’s a REALLY worthwhile experience. She had a few bad things to say about them when she left her job, though, but I think that’s the case with any job.
I don’t know a great deal about it all, but here’s their site –
Hope you save a bit of the world…

Thank God you’re back, I was beginning to work at work. I can’t have my boss thinking I’m a skilled and dedicated worker, who knows what that may lead to…
Hello.
Things are supposed to be balanced, but most of the time it’s too difficult to see where the balance is.
If something bad happens, there is usually do doubt that something good will come after it, but I suppose we hope that we will get instant balance from everything – I think it happens globally, and we may never see things pan out the way we would hope.
It’s like with day & night – in any 24 period we will always have a pretty even amount of light & dark, in winter we get more night and in summer we get more day, but it evens out. But in Greenland there’s days/months of dusk – this neither day or night. Does this mean that this time does not need to be balanced by anything?
With good & bad, though, this has often confused me. If something shit is to happen to me, I will hope that there will be something good at the end of it. But who’s to say that what happened to me was actually all that bad? It’s all relative.
At any one moment in your life, everything that happened up to that point took you to where you are. But when one individual thing happens, we are often too close to the situation to see that anything worthwhile can come out of it.
“Wait & see” is a bit of a cop out, but really that’s the only option we have.
If it’s true that everything has it’s equal and opposite, including our own actions, then it must mean that there is some kind of destiny or fate; and if this is the case, why would we know the answer? Is it up to us to know the secrets, or is it just up to us to live?
I imagine that your question came from something specific that happened, I hope it all works out for you.
peace
Hello.
In case you’re not aware of who Mr Moog is, he invented the first personal analogue synth.
Without this, there probably wouldn’t be any techno, drum & bass or psy-trance – at least not as we know it.
Though I don’t know about his politics, I do know about the noise which people contine to make today with his inventions. This noise will continue for longer than we will be alive. I think that deserves some respect.
peace, Mr Moog.
I get a few of these. They make me feel quite honoured.
I used to reply with some random things, but I never got a reply. I read about one guy, though, who did manage to beat them at their own game.
It was good, I’ll try to find it.
Here it is:
Just so you know, when I referred to repetative beats, I was talking about the now infamous sentence in the CJA. I was hoping that, with your screen name, you would have noticed the irony.
Hopefully, you can find your way to some parties to realise what I am actually talking about.
Remember, though, even if I was talking about commercial house, isn’t it my right to like what I like?
Now where did I put my Bros CD..?
Hello there.
Free parties? Nothing like that here…
If you want information on private, invite only parties, though, go to your local club on a night that’s playing music not dissimilar to party music (techno, psy-trance and all that ‘repetative beats’ nonsense) and speak to people there. This is how a lot of people have been passed their invites.
The only other way I can advise you is to drive through the countriside on any given weekend and listen for the bass coming from just over the next hill…
I got 28%
I think I need to spend more time on a different forum. I’m surrounded by chavs.
Very proud of Silver Fox. 11%? That’s almost upper-middle class…
Hello.
With the Glade just around the corner, I thought I’d better practice my social skills and say a big HELLO to all the new people here.
Now, as I don’t want to appear ‘favouritist’ I shan’t put any names on here for fear that others will feel left out that they have not been greeted by me.
I’m well impressed by all the Internationals that have been popping up, it’s always good to get a different perspective on everything.
I’ll hope to learn much from all of your random typings, the one’s I’ll look forward to most are the ones which are done at midday on Sunday after coming back from a night of craziness in the woods. (I’m imagining that anyone coming home later than that won’t be able to work a computer).
Anyway, enough of this banter, I have work to do…

Does this mean that it’s bestiality, though?!
Strangely, though, the thing that I noticed in the pictures more than anything else isn’t the animals themselves, but the two guys in the last picture.
Lions & Tigers breeding are one thing, but I think it’s completely immoral for David Copperfield to start having children with members of rock band Europe…
July 8, 2005 at 11:05 am in reply to: UK : Wales/Cymru : Welsh piglet escapes abbatoir and starts life as horse. #1066297Fantastic!
If I was a girl, I’d have printed off all the pictures of the little fluffy animals and stuck them all over my room by now!! Except, of course, none of them were peering out of an old shoe (you know the poster).
A friend told me that he saw in the paper a while ago something about different breeds of large cats breeding whilst in captivity – Lions & Tigers and stuff like that. There were pictures too apparently, I had a search for it on the internet, but I couldn’t find anything.
I mean what do you do? Type “bizarre cross-bred captive wildcats” in Google? That didn’t work…)
July 8, 2005 at 10:35 am in reply to: UK : Wales/Cymru : Welsh piglet escapes abbatoir and starts life as horse. #1066296I’ve been away for a bit, and then had an emotional day yesterday, what with London & all, but I read this and it cheered me up a little.
Favorite bit :
He has also made friends with a duck and a donkey…
Fantastic – if pigs can get on with other species, how come it’s mankind who assumes power on the planet?
Thanks GL for spreading information and showing there’s a little bit of good left (in animals at least).
Peace
I thought I’d lost a friend in London yesterday. I got a call late last night and she’s fine.
All I know is how bad I felt about someone who was OK. I can’t begin to imagine what it’s like for the others.
This is all getting ridiculous.
Hate breeds hate & fear breeds fear.
How come it’s only the innocents that know this?
To all who have been affected directly or indirectly, not just by this but by ALL the attrocities carried out in the name of ‘justice’ by ALL sides – I am truly, sincerely sorry.
Peace
