I need a cheap way of being able to use one 3.5mm audio output and a USB output for both a set of headphones and some speakers, playing seperate things. All the stuff I’ve seen has loads of bells and whistles and is mostly really pricey, but I literally just need what I’ve described with no other bits on.
Anyone know where I can get something like this?

March 7, 2011 at 7:04 pm #1236002Sorry I wasn’t very clear then. At the moment I’m mixing with no headphones, and as my PC only has one audio output then that’s all I can do. If I want to use headphones and have a different sound going to the speakers then I assume I would need something that plugged into the USB to run the headphone signal through?

I would take a guess and say you could get some headphones that are USB and perhaps some software that allows you to send different audio to different outputs. But its just a guess. Have defenatly seen USB headphones though.
I dont know enough about soundcards though to know if you can split the sound, I fear its possible you would need a soundcard that can output two seperate channels. But I really dont know, well out of date.

March 7, 2011 at 7:15 pm #1236003It’ll be for Traktor which I’m pretty sure has settings for running headphones through the USB. I’ve only just realised that if the speakers are running through the jack then I just need some USB headphones. Duh.

Maybe more than you’d like to spend but if you’re using it for DJing I think the least you can do for your audience is not subject them to poor quality sound from the laptop’s inbuilt sound card (some of them sound fucking awful). For all of Traktor’s advantages over vinyl I think the biggest drawback of the whole digital DJ thing is that it can sound really really shit if the MP3s are nasty and the hardware isn’t up to the job.

You can either get some usb headphones … you wouldn’t need any thing else if you did this. Or you could get a front pannel that you’d stick into an extra USB bus or front pannel socket from your mobo if you’ve got a spare one to get some extra mini jack inputs/outputs.
What OS you using btw? (I don’t think xp is as easy to do this on – but it might just be the usb speakers i used to use)

I think I’ll just get some headphones, Cheeseweasel, I don’t really have to worry about my audience as for quite some time it’s just going to be my neighbors, and they have to hear it through the wall anyway. Besides I’m just using mp3s ripped from YouTube at the moment, real low quality but easy to get as I hear them, and I can always go higher quality when I start actually having an audience.
