it is brass monkeys weather at all points of the compass from where I am, plus 14mph+ winds.

I am still having to wear gloves sometimes when cycling and my winter jacket – even in the office I have had to turn on extra heating (and I try not to do this to minimise my contribution to climate change)…

I know there’s cold air from the “coast and the cruel sea” (aaar..) but IMO there is rather too much of it about at the moment. there was some snow this morning as well. I dread to think what it may be like in the North and Scotland…

I have also only seen about 3 cats outside since I came here (despite a neighbour who allegedly looks after some from the local cats’ home) – they are usually lazing about in gardens by this time of year, but even those used to the cold tend to avoid it if possible…

anyone else half-frozen at the moment?

well I’ve got a spare portakabin and shed that my employers won’t be needing after April, you and your mates could have a minature hall party in it I suppose.

I could probably get you some sheep fencing (put it round the stack and then everyone can mosh and not risk pushing the speakers over!) and tarmac your drive as well but I’d have to go to Colchester to pick up materials…

You’d have to hurry as the authorities have got wind of you, I saw this headline on the BBC News

          Blair defends UK Katrina response

That must be why they are merging all the police forces round here…

In Yorkshire at the moment it’s a lovely Spring day. Had a bit of snow/hail yesterday tea time, but no complaints otherwise, at last. We didn’t nick it, though, someone’s trying to frame us!

I’m a bit confused about spring, too.

Today’s a fairly nice day, but there doesn’t really seem to be a definite ‘Spring’ season anymore. Anyone noticed how there’s no Autumn, either?

The leaves on the trees used to get all golden & nice (forgive my hippy ramblings), but now I don’t see it. The trees stay green, then the leaves fall off and it’s winter. There’s no in between bit anymore.

Maybe it’s just that I’m older now and I remember the days of being beaten up by my older brothers and getting buried in massive piles of leaves and hit with sticks, freshly fallen from the autumnal trees.

Oh, the happiness of childhood in the Autumn…….

Hmm – guess you wouldn’t get too far asking for Ether and Laudanum (opium dissolved in alcohol) at the Co-Op pharmacy – but it looks like Mr Pitts is older than we think 😉

According to the Met Office and the BBC we’ve just been lucky for the last 20 years and had mild springs. I still think its way too cold for Spring; and it doesn’t seem to follow that the cold spring means a longer summer. It was fairly cool last year and we didn’t get that much of a summer…

incidentally those of us in East Anglia may be interested in the following (sites shown proceeding North from Suffolk to Norfolk/Cambs)

                        Ipswich area:

                        http://homepage.ntlworld.com/philip.owers/index.htm

cool technology (when I were a lad a magnetic lettered board in the school courtyard opposite the georgraphy dept was high-tech) , but doesn’t make it any less rubbish weather though.

Perhaps we should suggest to the brainy people who run these sites they should set up the kit so we can send some weather over the Internet from some place like Kuala Lumpur (where it is usually 20+ celsius in Winter).

I’d even put up with the snakes, provided they stay at the Orwell flood barrier and do not alarm people by slithering up soil pipes and giving them a nasty surprise when they visit the loo!
