August 14, 2006 at 12:13 pm #1086153Why is cheese smuggling an arrestable offence then? Or is it because he didn’t pay some sort of customs charge on it?
August 14, 2006 at 12:19 pm #1086179Maybe we see Healines about Illicit cheese sweeping accross the Rave Scene Soon!:laugh_at:

Or is it because he didn’t pay some sort of customs charge on it?yep, its dutiable goods and the duty charges on cheese are actually very complicated in some countries – often it depends on the type of cheese, how much comptetition there is with local markets and what the cheese is being used for.
There are also checks for health reasons, and to ensure that in EU countries farmers are not claiming double subsidies on cheese or bulking it out with cheaper blends or less nutritious ingredients such as caesin(sp?).
in the UK there is a database kept of “all known UK cheese manufacturers”. (in common with all EU countries)

August 15, 2006 at 6:43 pm #1086151Britains “cheese squad” is based in Exeter. In my last job I had to speak to a few of their managers – they also send inspectors to dairy farms to ensure the cows are being looked after.

August 16, 2006 at 12:06 am #1086161it was not a welcome thought but i thought i would give it a fair go
the only times i have wheezed in the last 4 weeks or so have been when i have had too much milk [gave up cheese entirely:hopeless:] which is in my tea:yawn:
my next mission is going to have to be to either give up milk in my tea or the whole tea thing altogether:hopeless::hopeless::hopeless: i am going to be lost without my comfort teas [ i am down to 4 or less a day now from 10+ a day some days….]
August 16, 2006 at 12:10 am #1086172my friend has the same sort of thing with psoriosis (?spelling)
it’s mad just the small ammount of milk in tea / coffee can do to his skin, and wheat in bread.. not nice
he switched to herbal tea’s after he got his head round the whole macho thing (as he’s a fireman and they seriously took the piss for a while (DUH))August 16, 2006 at 12:20 am #1086162psoriasis is the spelling
its a bummer when you work out what is triggering stuff like psoriasis and asthma as giving it up sounds easier than it is [go check food labelling for ‘hidden’ milk in stuff it would never occur to you to put milk in :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy]
a long tima ago i realised that sodium metabisulphates triggered my asthma and was very depressed when i took stock of all the stuff it was found in that i used to like

August 16, 2006 at 12:39 am #1086163just about every diluting juice on the market at the time, many fizzy pops and some ‘fruit’ drinks
basically it was water and pure fruit juice or nothing:cry::cry::cry:
its still found in amny drinks even today despite the fact it can be a common asthma trigger but at least it is on the label, not like then when you had to carry around a list of bad E numbers which i needed to avoid:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy
August 18, 2006 at 9:41 am #1086166god almight, you have my sympathy. Most of us neber stop to think how lucky we are to bele to shovel all manner of random crap down us. Perhaps some days they’ll discover an alternative? On the bright side it probabaly makes you a damn sight healthier than a lot of people! x
