anyone going to this?
whats it like?
I (sort of) live in the area now and am tempted; although I’ve heard there is no dance tent this year (anyone know why?)
May 30, 2006 at 10:30 am #1076957i live in cambs an strawberry fair is fat, small scale festival in the centre of cambridge, ive been for the last 12 years an its always a feature
it is true that theres no dance stage this year, police said there were tomany class a’s around the dance stage and to get the licence they would have to abandon the dance stage (have to close summint every 2/3 years to keep the licence), theres still reggae tent, uk hip hop tent and a number of small stages with bands on + the main stage (i have no idea whos playin)
police tend to turn a blind eye to rug use but have a keen eye for dealers, always see sum rude boys being chased by pigs
if your close by then head down the geldart (near cambs station) on friday for upstanding, dnb ragga reggae jungle gabba 10-2
May 30, 2006 at 2:56 pm #1076948I wanna go..but dnt knw how iom getttin there this yr yet!
May 30, 2006 at 3:25 pm #1076941Come along dude. it’s a good day out. The dance tent used to be run by Planet yes crew, while the reggae is run by my good friends from 1footskank. Loadsa hippy stalls, etc; It’ a good laugh. I’m going for the first time in 3 years as usually have had exams around now.
After parties are always good as well.

Anyone else going from Suffolk or fancies meeting up? Definitely sounds good but I feel a bit out on a limb here as I know nobody from this area (other than on the internet) and have never been to Cambridge in my life…
this made me laugh though (found on the directions)

May 30, 2006 at 10:28 pm #1076940I’d probably be up for going but don’t know if anyone I know will be driving. I’ll ask around and let you know GL. Would be good to meet up.
May 31, 2006 at 7:23 am #1076932I may actually be going if I can still get a lift.

anyone wanna meet IM me!May 31, 2006 at 9:41 am #1076934wanna go, but unsure if i will due to finances, adn the train is a bit too much,
too much as in cost of fares, or a dodgy service?
I was thinking of popping up on the train just for the day and then going back later in the evening as I don’t really know that many people here to blag lifts to the afterparty..
(hmm… thinking about this the late night train is surely gonna be full of pissed up chavs and/or BTP cops so maybe thats what you mean?)
May 31, 2006 at 10:05 am #1076935assuming there isn’t much happening afterwards (and probably not good to speculate on here for obvious reasons) how easy is it to get back out of Cambridge to Ipswich? will the last train be full of pissed up chavs and BTP cops?
I don’t really want to be spending the night wandering around an unfamiliar area trying to kill time until the first morning train…
May 31, 2006 at 10:13 am #1076951Havent been to this for 3 years, although alwasy used to go, wanted to take the littlun but some friends went last year and rekonned the vibe was a bit dodgy..lots of people rollin around pissed up and generaly “anethatised”.
Anyone else go last year on the family tip, it only an hour away so it might be a good day put, shame about the dance sounds though

p.s hope ur well Gav!
May 31, 2006 at 10:20 am #1076958the festival ends quite early as its in the centre of town,
so its no probs gettin a train back but dnt hold out hope for late trains as they go around 10 o’clock!!!!!!!!!
theres always stuff going on afterMay 31, 2006 at 10:24 am #1076959atm23 wrote:Havent been to this for 3 years, although alwasy used to go, wanted to take the littlun but some friends went last year and rekonned the vibe was a bit dodgy..lots of people rollin around pissed up and generaly “anethatised”.Anyone else go last year on the family tip, it only an hour away so it might be a good day put, shame about the dance sounds though
Its fine for kids, piss heads stay away from all the kids activitys which are on the other side of the common from the beer tent/reggae tent etc
theres loads of stuff for kids to do as well, take a gander http://www.strawberry-fair.org.uk/
May 31, 2006 at 10:28 am #1076952Thanks mate it always seemed ok when we used to go in the past YBH the friends who went last year tend to be a little paranoid about such things. The littlun loves a run about and a bit on dancin…proper Hardcore Progeny 😉

No worse TBH than taking kids to a pub where they are allowed in the play area (and probably a lot more fun for the kids!)

id much prefer to go to strawbery fair as a kid than a grow up 2 be fair,
now adays i jus get pissed and milled up and dance around, stuff like the patchwork circus was some of the most fun i had as a kid, my parents couldnt drag me away an most stuff is free (or used to be it is gettin more an more commercial)
and if its is at all nasty then theres a kids playground 5mins walk down the river,
its not really a drug taking music festival more a day out for the family, theres loads of rides bouncy things and such, sure after 5/6 in the evening it gets a bit ugly but kids will be exauseted if not already in bed by then.
June 1, 2006 at 2:46 pm #1076955theres always usally a life4land set in the afternoon where they blast out a bit of D&B or some dirty gabba and theres always places to have a few friends around and get pissed or stonned but it usaly gets a bit rowdy later on ( ileave about 7-8pm)
but its always a good place to meet people:surprised :surprisedJune 1, 2006 at 2:48 pm #1076961yeah life for land have always played on the dance stage, no dance stage this yr, ah well maybe the’ll main stage it up,

the most I have ever seen at similar events in Oxfordshire and Surrey is one or two scuffles which are often stopped just by bystanders (it is rare for stewards or cops to be involved)….
I have been to a cannabis festival in London a few years back and there was surprisingly little trouble (a handful of incidents maybe).. wouldn’t have expected this to be that bad (or the cops would never allow it anyway?)
