I also solved the mystery of the langæg (long egg) and why it was popular in both DK and JP which are so many miles apart. it is also common in surrounding countries with strong maritime traditions – it would have been popular with ships cooks as normal eggs would be easily broken and/or roll about the kitchen in rough seas, whereas a long egg could be kept in such a direction that it would be much harder to roll away (it is not completely cylindrical either). Useful ideas tend to cross the seas with the ships..

In fact it was one of the items served up at some morning breakfast conference for local businesses that was hosted by British Telecom (though I bet the breakfast wasn’t as good as what you would have had at a similar conference at T-Systems or Teledanmark)
