hello all, i use cd players in my set up, i used to use vinyl and since my move have found it incredibly difficult to beat match, i have a method which works most of the time but sometimes have to resort to a ”outro-intro mix” which i dont really like using, just wondered if anyone had any tips for me to try

      many thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

      i use 2 stanton c314s and one cdj800

Get the two at the same speed using the pitch fader as you would when working on normal decks then there should be a pitch ben button that allows you to tweak them until they are in time.

It works the same way as speeding up the record or slowing it down with your hand….i.e if you press the + then it speeds it up slightly until you let it go.

This may seem fairly obvious but its the only thing I can think of…..I flipped out and threw my cd decks at the wall a few years ago and haven’t had any since.

Try ripping a few CDs to your pooter and then get hold of Ableton, there are plenty of (ahem) Evaluation copys on most P2P sites, see how you get on with it,then if you like it buy it ,innit:)

Was out a few months ago in oxford centre drinking in “Thirst”, was having a dance then went to chat with the dj as its a small bar and he was sing a Mac laptop to do his mixing, looked really simple to me, even i understood it and i cant mix! I have forgot what software he was using though

All the songs he had were MP3’s on his hard drive, and he was then using the software to mix the songs. I thought he was cheating so when i asked him if he was, he showed me a couple of songs and asked me to choose one to play next. Gave me a couple of demos of it.

Throw them in the bin and start buying vinyl again.

Have used Final Scratch before, which was smart, you just drag tracks on the screen and drop them onto what deck you want them on, then use the vinyl to mix them. Needs a super duper laptop as well as the FS gear as well though, so probs about a grand to 15,00 quid all in… and think of all the good vinyl you could buy with that instead…

I get the impression with some genres (particulary psy-trance, but increasingly UK hardcore/freeform and breakbeat) a lot of new releases appear to only exist on CD…

                                  • download culture has reduced the revenue for music producers
                                  • increased license fees, policiing costs, and clampdowns/cancellations have also diminished the revenue from licensed events.

so there is less money around on the dance music scene.. and vinyl is costlier to produce than CD’s

its a shame to us traditionalists but I think market forces are hitting very hard…
