definitely enough bb threads on pv now. pv is normally a refuge from that type of crap. the whole bullshit celebrity phenom seems to be infecting the space. quick, dilute it before we get rebranded as heat online!
July 13, 2006 at 5:10 pm #1082811I think putting up the incidents of domestic violence serious enough to get the baying viewers in Britain actually calling the real “Big Brother” (i.e the police!) instead of the TV company is a bit too far (even if they are on youtube).
I haven’t watched a single second of BB for years and will not do so.
Its not even the “fake celeb culture” which annoys me but the way these shows edge out real talent and encourage social conflict, blind obedience of unseen authority and grassing on people.
Dunno about anyone else but I see this sort of thing every day in my real life; I ride back through the estates and see stuff like ambulances picking up the casualties of the domestic violence and street fights and the cops watching people constantly; I hear the shouts of angry people and the two tone sirens; I smell the acrid smoke of peoples cars, sheds, caravans and even houses being burned out over petty arguments.
Then I have to pass CCTV cameras and a cop station with a 6 stories high banner saying “ZERO TOLERANCE”.
Even at social occasions you get everyone putting everyone down and trying to stitch up one another…
I don’t need no fucking big brother, I see this all the time!
seriously the last thing I want to see is more young people fighting amongst themsevles over artificially created conflict situations. Aren’t we al l involved in the rave scene and this social network to get away from this?
July 13, 2006 at 6:11 pm #1082810Point taken Use and GL, I’ll give it a rest from now on with these clips and I’m sorry for offending your sensibilities…

I was just wondering if you were going nuts or had somehow become obsessed with BB…if they aren’t the same thing that is.

you didnt offend my sensibilities, its not like i dont watch big brother. its just i think its important for this site to stay clear of mainstream media because theres enough of it already. the bbc news posts are good, and i’m loving the new media embedding malarky. thanks for being cool.
July 14, 2006 at 7:22 am #1082812TBH it was only these particular clips I was concerned about, that concentrate on the domestic violence which has occured in various worldwide incarnations of Big Brother. (I’m more concerned about the mentality of the youtube users who saw fit to go to all the trouble to capture and upload them 🙁 )
lthough I didn’t watch the rest they did not bother me.
Its just something I feel strongly about as I’ve seen many similar situations occur in real life at residential squats and even raves when the residents have been put under some sort of pressure; and these incidents are becoming more common.
Surely we can find loads of amusing and entertaining stuff which doesn’t involve watching real people fight one another after media manipulation?
We have as much power as old media now and its worth using that power positively and responsibly, not falling into the same old traps as old media.
