This girl was blown up in last years bomb. She is still having delayed compensation

The people who were sacrificed by our Goverment in the name of “freedom” are now having their lifestyles picked apart by officers of the same Government…

I’m sure whoever said this to her knows medical evidence would prove them wrong, but they are clearly taking the opportunity to use their bit of power to criticise her lifestyle..

      Quote:
The very next day, I was asked to justify my claim for damages for my perforated eardrums. I was a few feet from the bomber on the Aldgate tube. I lost both my legs, I nearly lost my arm, and my skull was fractured. Yet they are trying to suggest that somehow I burst my eardrums at a rave the weekend before. That is Tony Blair’s idea of fast tracking.

indeed. I am shocked that the people dealing with her compensation were even allowed to make such a suggestion to the girl.

Along with the rest of the victims she is a civillian caught up what is essentially a global conflict our Government decided to participate in to defend our standard of living and our economy.

Compensation should be whatever it costs and unconditional – and if it means taking money away from other public services so be it. The Treasury is spending plenty on the war abroad and the war at home (cops, security services etc) anyway.

I have never heard of a loud sound system causing perforated eardrums; I think it is medically and physically impossible (perhaps BioTech may know more about this?)

I am becoming far more worried these days about the moral/lifestyle policing going on in Great Britain than the distant threats of the Taliban and Al-Quaeda..

I wouldn’t say that I knew any more than you on the subjcet but I’d be surprised /amazed if a soundsystem could perforate an eardrum. Hearing loss through nerve damge yes, but not perforation (which is caused by sudden pressure change and not loud volumes afaik) unless you were to place your ear over a bandpass port, or something similar, as a bassline dropped.

I think it could burst your ear drums if a giant system blew up, but thats quite unlikely

the valve sound system hasnt harmed anyone as far as i know an thats pretty much as loud as it gets in this country

a soundsystem loud enough to perforate eardrums would also be capable of seriously structurally damaging buildings – it has to have the capacity to suddenly push out a huge amount of pressure [sounds like a bomb doesnt it?]:rant:

exactly. And even if a fault condition had caused even short-term hearing damage to people in a club or rave, it would result in a very large number of people presenting to a hospital emergency department; the sort of incident which would be unlikely to go unnoticed by the NHS and/or the media.

Perforating eardrums would take approximately 210dB of sound pressure, and would need to be in a frequency range somewhere around 600Hz-1500Hz (it takes far more pressure for bass frequencies to damage cell tissue than for higher range frequencies)

Before the sound had gotten anywhere near the volume required for this, people standing in front of a rig putting out that kind of volume would have started falling over (at around 180dB, bass frequencies cause compression of the thorax, resulting in an inability to breathe – anyone with asthma would have an attack induced. At around 160dB, high frequencies become painful, and would result in people moving away due to massive discomfort)

Your average system (electrical power about 20Kw, active setup) puts out about 100-110dB, with maybe as high as 150dB peak transients at the bass end. You need a monster rig to get even as high as 160dB transients (the dB scale is logarithmic, so at the top end, it requires a huge increase in power to move a few dB).

Any decent sound engineer can tell you this.

Bombs in confined spaces however, are well known to burst eardrums (the huge pressure created by the expansion ratio of explosive compounds, coupled with a confined space (such as a bus, or subway) cause pressure levels that are just not possible (or desirable) with a sound system)

The government need to be shot down in flames here…:rant::rant::rant:
