I’ve just seen a grey squirrel in my back garden doing some funky acrobatics off a silver birch tree planted about 10 years ago. One of my family shoots grey’s cos they not red. I think he’s a cunt … even though this wee guy’s (the squirrel) American he can flip some moves! Now I hate to be racist, but surely if the Americans (and by that I mean the useless white one’s what took over from the perfectly happy natives) can do a better job then the English at staying alive, especially if they are an entertaining breed of animal, we love them best, lets not lie.
I used to make peanut trees for squirrels when there were actually reds about, still fed the greys. Probably more so. It’s all about going to your local park, getting a branch (with multiple twigs coming off it) and jamming it in the floor. Then get a monkey nut, split the end, and place one on every branch. Wait for all the squirrels to make friends with you, black white red or grey! :laugh_at:
February 24, 2012 at 11:50 am #1251034I’ve come across a couple half way up trees before, you can see the “what the fuck are you doing up here” look on their face before the scuttle away down the trunk haha

February 24, 2012 at 3:40 pm #1251027The argument that ‘they are better at surviving here’ although true doesn’t really look at the bigger picture. Invasive species are ultimately bad for biodiversity. Some invasive plants can wipe out thousands of local species. Are they better adapted? Clearly, but do we want a single well adapted species or a balanced collection of native species?
That aside it’s too late with the squirrels, going out and shooting a grey isn’t going to solve anything

I had to learn about these in collage, some of the plant species are unreal at invading. In some parts of south america, theres a species of ivy that grow at roughly 1ft a week and can ‘burrow’ through bark and timber, when it reaches said core, it ‘infects’ the tree and drains it of all its nutrients, leaving nothing more than an EMPTY shell. fuckin mad, nature is one vicious mama.
February 24, 2012 at 10:36 pm #1251031I grew up kinda racist… And only few years ago did I really question it and saw it had no ‘reasoning’… Yet still today I suffer(is that a good word or like effects me)? from it although to a small degree I totally see it having no intelligence behind it.
Could racism just be one way humans try to bias things to prevent them from harm/threats? A very inefficient technique but none the less.
Kind of sad in a way I guess but I haven’t heard someone say it before or any science behind it so here’s my 3 cents…
February 24, 2012 at 10:41 pm #1251030I think a majority of racist slurs are stemming from fear/insecurity, many of the idiots who are through and through racists are so fearful of others that they feel verbal and physical violence is required to, almost, ‘assert’ the dominance over ‘those who aren’t like us’. But thats just a theory

I grew up with some racist people, what evidently had it’s effect on the way I view life, casual rasisim was natural amongst my friends. I now know that they were just stupid people (and unfortunately as far as I know they haven’t changed much).
On a good note, I know this guy who has an addiction to heroin what used to be an out and out skin head (he’s got the tats on his arms and hands and everything!). I only mention he was a smack head because the lifestyle got him into it afaik. This was when he was in his late teens (he’s now in his 40’s). Nowadays he’s a total liberal, who went through a hippy phase and proper lived the life of a peace loving hippy, till gear totally ruined his life. He’s such a sound guy, but I can see it tears him up the fact he’s got swazzstickers and various slogans tatted on his arms! :s Evidently he’s a lot happier and free in his mind now with regards to how he used to be, even though he’s going on 27 years of habitual heroin use (one more year then I’ve been alive!!!).
February 27, 2012 at 5:13 pm #1251035i saw some awful programme once (i can’t really remember that much) that had some really nutty guy that went out in fully army gear hunting grey squirrels with some sort of ‘gun type thing’ (can’t remember). but he was even stopping cars and asking members of the public to cough up any grey squirrel’s location like he was on some sort of divine quest or something… thinking that everyone would instantly recognise his mission as a pursuit of justice. very nutty… pun not intended does anyone remember this? i remember he was a bit like ‘the other guy’ from ‘spaced.’ @Clusterfrog 469581 wrote:
