I would tell only my family and very close friends, and be prepared to leave the UK for some months immediately afterwards (I would go to somewhere in SE or East Asia, where many people look like me so I would blend into the background 😉 )

Of course I would come back to England eventually as I would miss the place but I would need to escape first, as the media would find you and stalk you whether you told them or not.

i’d buy a huge mansion with loads of grounds, and invite everysound system in europe to play there for about a week. Have to invite everyone on here and fly people in on my private jet that didn’t live close! Well i’ve got two tickets so it could just happen….

I remember reading some years ago that every major lottery winner gets a Special Branch file opened up on them even if they have never been in trouble in their life, and the local police, Security Service/SIS (MI5/6) and NCIS (now SOCA) contribute everything they know about the winner to this file…

Someone with that sort of money has gained power and the authorities watch them if they are not from the usual “establishment” – as they have already had incidents of people using their lottery winnings to buy loads of drugs such as the “King of Chavs” and thus (maybe as a knock on effect rather than a deliberate thing) funding lots of other crimes.

Another lottery winner decided to invest in a big growing enterprise (they got caught, possibly grassed up) and most of the money was confiscated…

Some years ago a random Chinese guy won the UK lottery and caused an alert when he just disappeared and transferred loads of cash out of the country (money laundering safeguards mean that this sort of transaction is monitored); – initially it was thought thought Triads had kidnapped him but all he was in fact doing was just sorting out his relatives!

apparently there is a plan that if someone from the “wrong sort of group” won the lottery and started spending the money on the “wrong sort of things” that the security services would try to get covert agents to befriend them and make them lose the money in dubious investments (but TBH nowadays the cops/SOCA can freeze all the accounts the moment they suspect the funds are being used for criminal activities)
