its well known for organisations to buy and reroute domains that are critical of them for positive spin purposes, and easy to get way more concerned about this especially if its a organisation whose views you do not agree with. Its perfectly possible the feds bought it themselves, or paid some kid to do it, not so much for “tinfoil hat” type operations (which would only yield a great load of IP addresses of any random folk worldwide) but as advertising, as particularly in the USA, the kind of folk what are into stuff like crypto, hacking etc will work for whoever pays them the most $$$ rather than morals even if it is feds/govt, and in any case might even stay on the NSA website out of curiosity….

On completely the other side of the political spectrum if you spell the Guardian’s title as “grauniad” for their internet domain it now takes you to the website of the popular left-wing newspaper (it didn’t always do this in the 1990s), although the joke itself is older than I am – in the 70s they used to print the paper using hot lead metal in Manchester, so the early editions sent to London by train very often contained errors, including the masthead being misspelt as the Gaurdian. This naturally attracted the attention of jokers such as Private Eye, who made much humour from this and other misprints, though to be fair newspapers of all politics and especially local ones were riddled with them until computers arrived in the 80s.

No conspiracy here but smart marketing by a big media organisation, they give the impression not just that they can laugh at themselves, but lock off the domain against critics using it against them without having to launch Court cases with ensuing bad publicity and costs 😉
