As some of you may know, I’m 16 but 17 in less than a month. Im gettin drivin lessons as soon as I can and coz I’ve started buildin this sound system I thought it would probably be a good idea to get a van.

Were just wonderin are vans another class of vehicle so do you need another licence for em and if so, is there an age limit on gettin one?

Another thing, I know insurance for young folks is rediculously expensive so how much approx. do people reckon it would be per year? (Bearing in mind the van I would get would be a rete old run down one) I know for a crap little car its about 2-3 grand and I’m assumin it will be higher for a van as theyr bigger and harder to drive.

      Cheers

up to 3.5 ton your alowed to drive on a car licence, thats like transit van size.

you wont get insured on one full stop at 17 or very very unlikely.

Yeh I were thinkin that last night. I’ll just have to see what happens. Even if they do give me a quote it would be rete expensive tho but I’ll just have to hope I’ve got a decent job by then if they do insure me :yakk:.

            http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_4022547

17, under 3500kg and less than 8 seats, and 1 driver seat.

You can get a 12 seater, say, and strip 3 seats, then re-register with the DVLA though.

Yeah I will do. bit hard when I havent got a clue what I would be gettin n I dunno any of the details but I’m sure I could still get a rough estimate (If they would insure me at all)

Yea thats what i meen, just get a rough idea if you could get insured.
just try a 1995 transit swb or some other medium sized van as a rough guide.

Just tried it on comparethemarket.com and Mr AHC was right. nowhere would even give me a quote. I did it based on me being 17, nearly 18 now with a 1995 transit and having just got my licence which is what the circumstances are gunna be when I actually get my licence. Looks like I’m gunna have some transport troubles when my rigs up and runnin then!:head_bang

Get an older mate to hire a van, as long as you’ve been driving 3 years it wont be a problem:wink:

Aye thats probably what I’ll do unless I can persuade ma dad to drive it around in his work’s flatbed which is a bad idea anyway but he’d just tell me to piss off:crazy_dru

Yeh I’m sure I wont have too much trouble finding someone I know who would do it.

What about a stripped minibus? Does that maybe give you different results?

It might do yeah. Dont think I could get a quote for one online though coz I wont be able to tell the computer that its stripped out.

Just got a quote for one made in 2000 and it would be £1632.50 at £148.06 x 10 months. Not too bad to say I’d only be 17.

Rather get a Luton body van though coz theyr a bit bigger. Got a quote for one of them as well and the price still wasnt that bad. I dunno I’ll just have to wait till I can actually drive to sort it all out properly:bounce_fl

Oh yeh, also, what does my display pic thing look like to everyone else coz I changed it but its just the same as it was before even though in the little window thing where you can change it it says its the new one. If you know what I mean!

It should be a lion but its showing me the old one which was the black and white Dope Dragon logo.

(Edit) Never mind, I’ve sorted it now.

Could do but if I got pulled over (Which I probably will at some point) can’t be arsed to have ma license taken off me basically as soon as I get it coz that would be a rete piss take. Well I’m assumin they take your license or give you a ban or whatever. Whatever they do to you, I still can’t be arsed with it!
