As he seems to like playing the clown anyway (albeit often at the expense of his surroundings….), reducing his honorary degree ceremony to the sort of goings on more suited to a children’s TV programme seems entirely appropriate – with added comedy value from his daft attire (is that what you have to wear when you graduate?) and the rentaguard…
