      Man dies after stabbing incident
A 24-year-old man has died from stab wounds after being found in a street in Ipswich, Suffolk.

He was found outside Zest nightclub and taken to hospital in the early hours of the morning but later died.

In another incident which police are currently treating separately, a 25-year-old man in the nightclub was shot in the shoulder and legs.

Two other men from Stanway, in Essex, were also treated for gunshot wounds after being injured in the club.

The area around Princes Street has been cordoned off and people inside the club at the time of the alleged incidents have been questioned.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said officers had yet to establish whether all the men had been inside the nightclub, but said the incidents all appeared to be “linked to the nightclub in some way shape or form”.

She said: “We are treating these incidents separately at the moment, but we are keeping an open mind as to whether they may be linked.”

Although it appears to be a dispute between obvious gangster types who know one another must have been alarming for anyone inside around the times this happened..

I hope none of my friends got caught up in this…

Darkside. when i was in Bristol, i was having drink in a carrebean cafe with some lady and by the time we got home, via a few bars, someone had been shot at the cafe and it was on the news! apparently some jardie gunman was on the run from jamaica, and was told to meet someone there who hadn’t showed, the guy had got twitchy and shot some geezer who bumped into him!
we weren’t even there when it happened, but it certainly fucked with my prespective, thinking id been in the presence of a murderer and probably his victim while i was drinking some coffee downtown.

i cant imagine what it would be like if gubnshots went off in the club i was in. i’ve seen stabbings, and that was bad enough, gave me rave-related nightmares for a while. trauma is rubbish. theres very little you can do except go throught it and try and come out the other side.

four people in hospital? thats not what you want to see on a night out. good security eh? clubs liek that should have metal detectors. interesting that the knife was more fatal than the gun tho….

every time I pass that place on a weekend there is at least one Emergency Ambulance there – in fact the local ambulances wait in the car park near the main nightclub area rather than at their station as they know they will be needed (this is fairly common practice in most NHS trusts and actually saves fuel and improves response time, which says something about the level of violence in a British town)

the venue used to be a “raver-friendly” place but it got clamped down on due to anti-drugs initiatives in Suffolk and Essex, so the owners (in order to preserve the revenue stream) appear to have been forced to make it into the average townies binge-drinking club.

Metal detectors may be a good idea (provided theye are used properly by trained staff as they are otherwise useless and provide a false sense of security) but it may well be the case that the incidents happened outside the venue.

IME most clubs (even the townie ones) try to stop trouble – but you can search pockets, and bags but you can’t search a persons mind.If people are determined to attend a social occasion with the intention of causing crime and violence they will – even if a club has 20 ex-SAS bouncers (and round here a lot of bouncers are ex-Services because of Colchester) and a hotline to the cops…

the only possible solutions IMO are the “soft security” ones of ensuring venue layout, access points, music policy etc does not create flashpoinnts or encourage a culture fighting or violence.

In this country knives cause more deaths than guns because they are used at close combat – the attacker will doubtless kick, punch and stamp on their opponent after bringing them down, after all they are going to do many years in HMP anyway so I think a lot of them really want to ensure their opponent is seriously injured or dead

OTOH also lots of “gangsta” types here believe what they see in films and think single bullets will instantly kill people.

in fact unless they hit a major organ its not always the case, and the human body has a lot of fat and soft tissue around these organs.

Someone in my old city got hit by 8 x 9mm rounds and survived. He was quite fat though!

as you touched on, its not a raver-friendly club, its a binge-drinking haven. and they are just trouble. once again our stupid drug-laws are aking society more dangerous for everyone else. i’m not claiming that drug-tolerent venues dont get trouble, but in my experience the more focused on alcohol a venue is, teh more dangerous it is.

the metal detector solution came from a dodgy club in bristol that had metal detectors. i thought it was cool they made no effort to stop drugs coming in their club, but just concentrated on violence. the only real bad thing that slips under the net is date-rape drugs, which are still incredibly difficult to clamp down on.

the stabbing has now been confirmed as a gunshot wound…

surprise surprise, the event was a UK garage night – and apparently people didn’t hear the gunshots over the music (or maybe thought it was an effect on one of the tunes!)

half the town was locked down this weekend with CCTV cars on every cordon filming people as they went past

it is proper going mad here it seems with also 3 (maybe 4) girls murdered who were working in town as prostitutes…

BTW it now looks like Zest is being put on closure so anyone who is DJ’ing or promoting there probably needs to look for alternative venues

yep – one guy I know was going to go to Zest but decided against it (wise choice)

A few people who knew them went to Zest and they got locked in by cops and questioned about what they had seen but no one was hurt..

most people I know round here would only go to this venue a last resort as the music isn’t as good and there is always trouble

And sad about the people who are not 🙁

Jesus that sounds bad. I dont think there has ever been anything as bad as this, round my way. The worst i have seen happen is a load of aylesbury boys crash a party then the thame lot ended up bottling a load of them and i thought that was bad enough. It was quite strange to have me an my cousin sat by the bar an the whole of the club fighting in front of us.

apparently its now due to gangsters from London attracted by the UK Garage being played in the clubs…

one of the senior detectives was speaking to the media today; he had been in the force 28 years and never heard of a firearm being discharged to settle a dispute at a social occasion (and this is in a semi-rural area where guns aren’t exactly uncommon)

but stupid fights over regional rivalries are unacceptable whatever weapons are used or even if they are just using fists and feet…

everyone loses from them in the end, as even if the cops don’t get involved the NHS staff who patch up the injured often tell the cops that they have treated people with serious injuries due to gang fights (they don’t pass on names though)

so the venues get a bad name and get closure orders put on them

and society says “young people can’t control themselves late at night, so just shut down the late night venues and restrict their freedom”

That is a nightmare and half but IMO it was only a matter of time in those sorts of places.

Zest (previously known as hollywoods) used to be a great club back in the mid 90’s. Happy people, a wide range of music styles and good promoters (Club UK). It started to go downhill around 96 and by 98 when Club UK and Kink left. It was feeling a bit like London or Manchester no go zones when we were standing outside flyering.

Gangs of very shady looking suited guys would waltz in and out without the doormen even stopping them, so I can only imagine what it escalated in to.

Haven’t been there since 98 but I don’t ever plan to make a visit again. RIP Club UK.

hmm – and what kicked it all off? The 1995 clampdown on recreational drug use in the East of England (thus encouraging more drinking of alcohol), and the rise of UK Garage as “grown up clubbing music” in the late 1990s and its acceptance by the mainstream despite the violence and hate in its lyrics

IMO some of the lyrics are as bad as those militant muslims or the BNP in glorifiying violence – and worst of all its the only music genre which chose to abandon the more positive musical forms (a friend of mine was a UKG producer and promoter but got out of the scene as he feared for his safety!)

Zest is on closure now anyway; it may not open over the festive season and I reckon that may bankrupt it…

if it ever opens again as a nightclub I hope the management learn from their mistakes…

i think the police should have a 3 strike rule and that would consisted of basically if u get nicked 3 times 4 fighting or aggressive behaviour u get banged up 4 a long time simple i live in felixstowe where it is pretty much quiet all the time dont get me wrong we have our fare share of gang rivalry mostly with the polish but i see ppl all the time being arrested 4 fighting and they go 2 court and nothing happens and b4 they even get there punishment they are back on the streets fighting again i myself go into about 3 pubs in my area coz every where else i go im certain 2 get into a fight i remember a club i used 2 go in ipswich called the attic never ever remember there being any vilonce there but that was another club made 2 close down when i used 2 go 2 illegals as well never saw any fighting have’nt been 4 about 5 years now but i hear stories of ppl fightin at them was goin on the rave scene was made 4 everyone 2 be together as 1 now it seems like 1 big rumble when i start my partys up again in the summer if i see any fightin goin on im gonna pack up or get every1 at the party 2 tell them 2 fuck off

                              keep safe keep ravin:bounce_fl :bounce_fl :bounce_fl :bounce_fl

yeah I would agree with that – if the authorities don’t do something about the culture of fighting round here (instead of just clamping down on people with a few pills or having a smoke) they are gonna have serious “public order issues” by next summer…

my new friends I have met here since moving here in March try to put on decent, friendly events in Ipswich and yet they get hassle from cops over “links to illegal raves” etc, also with people who are just aggressive when they do not need to be…

I know people in EA like to stick up for themselves and their views but there’s no need for aggression and tension at raves otherwise they are no different from any townie activity and without bouncers/cops someone could actually get hurt or killed (BTW when this happens as it has done in London cops sometimes seize your rig as part of a “crime scene!”)

A few years ago (before I lived here) I noticed that fighting and violence is destroying the parties in SE England and London, more so even than the hassles from the police… its not too bad here but there are still flashpoints and bits of tension at every rave and this shit really doesn’t need to happen at parties

its a good philosophy as well of just stopping the music at parties to shock people out of fighting, you may not be able to stop things before they happen but at least you can show its not acceptable..

Welcome to partyvibe BTW – good to see another Suffolk raver on here!
