low frequency noise can indeed be unpleasant, and give people visual disturbances and stomach pains as the body is literally being shaken about but the “crap cannon” is more of an urban legend. for one thing speakers aren’t that efficient.

Consider that a large number of people every weekend voluntarily subject themselves to low frequency noises at high level, whilst taking chemicals often with known slight laxative effects. Whilst it has happened to some unfortunates, very few people do manage to shit themselves and the drugs play more of an effect than the music..

the most common sonic “weapon” used by the authorities is rather more mundane – the bog standard electronic siren used on most blue light vehicles – as this can reach 120+dB at close range. at places like climate camps / protests the cops on night duty will wait until the activists have gone to sleep, then drive up slowly and set off all their sirens randomly.

The idea of this is simply to deprive the the activists of sleep, so they become increasingly sketchy and tired whilst facing increasing waves of fresh cops at each shift change.

it is possible the feds may try a LF weapon for the above purposes or just to spread FUD but there isn’t that much of an advantage to make people shit themselves, especially if they are planning on arresting them afterwards! :yakk: if people are angry enough they don’t care (I think it was SJ but may have been somwhere else where pics were posted up of some dude was running a marathon, lost control of his bowels and just carried on).

OK some people might go home humiliated, but others may decide to launch a “dirty protest” on cops, vehicles and equipment, your now talking a major health hazard – the human rights lawyers could even argue this would be also a chemical weapon to deliberately spread disease, with severe risk of “collateral damage” (even to the feds!)
