I’ve been a few times and might be going this year if the weather’s ok.
Its basically a big acoustic party with lots of drumming and laughing all night with loads of wasted randoms.
And you might get a beautiful sunrise if you’re lucky.
Can be really cold and windy or wet though.
Most people enjoy it as far as I’ve seen.

I am intending to pop to it this year… something I haven’t done before, but its all down to the weather. If its not too shitty I will be missioning down there 😉

                  its great …

i really DONT like how they let people sit on the stones and drink etc … its appaling the mess is horrible … bring the barriers in a little closer maybe or even make a path through but letting people sit on them is just plain wrong :you_crazy

they dont let them climb on the stones but i see where ur coming from, i dont see them as a religious thing tho, i see them as more of just what humans have done, and it is a great feat, and i see that after pulling them all that way just by hand and donkey they prob shared a beer on top of them

the site prob is left in quite a mess afterwards, might have to bring bin bags this year

the stone in the middle last year had people slumped all over it … theres just something wrong about a bottle of lambrini on the floor next to something that is thousands of years old and yes a great human feat … its just a picture of modern Britain

                      … humans create … humans destroy …

Yea, the site did feel abit used and abused at points but its only once a year i suppose!
Avebury one looks pretty gentle, i still think Castlerigg in the lakes is the most beautiful, solstice would be wicked up there this summer.

                            Sorry,

Obviously I don’t agree with the place being left in a mess either. And climbing on the rocks is probably a bit dangerous if nothing else.

But surely and I know this hasen’t been proved but is the nearest thing they can come up with, it was put there for Pagan rituals anyhow so surely this would have happend? And I’m on about just sitting on them, I mean they are just rocks? (amazing and all how they got there, why there there etc)

sorry SAF … you posted before i had replied 🙂

They are just rocks yes but i dunno for me they hold mystery and something different …

i just feel like our modern society feels the need to wreck everything and not preserve …

thousands of years ago people where there … what they were doing isnt known and in my mind this needs saving from ourselves …

i cant really see how sitting on a huge lump of stone is going to hurt it.
people used to carve their names in them and all sorts when they were open years ago.
nowadays theres thousands of people climbing, dancing, sitting and lying all over them. wont hurt though because theyre massive and its only for a few hours.

im pretty sure theres loads of people there to clean up after too.

i was just going start this thread myself! i will defiantly be going i have been for the last 3 years and every time its been very magical and its only up the road from me. lets hope for a good sun up this year. it should be good after going to the winter solstice at least it will be warmer. i defiantly agree though there is a distinct lack of respect, i dont really mind the drinking its just the lack of respect for the hole area thats annoying as its sacred . maybe see some of you guys milling around the stones then.

Of course I completely agree with you there. I will be taking bin bags to tidy up my mess, i’ve just looked at the pictures of privious years on the site and it looks a complete state and that is dicusting!

As far as sitting on the rocks I really don’t see what the problem is, carving your name into them I would draw the line. They really hard things made out of rocks I can’t see the damage you would be causing by sitting on it?

I’m sure you’ve sat on a rock at a party before? Or even a fallen tree trunk?……same thing surely?

surely the ceremonies that the stones where built for were all about getting pissed and celebrating the year/life etc. so i dont think its wrong that people get pissed around them as that is where our whole drink/drug culture comes from all the ancient ceremonies and stuff. i do think people should treat them with a bit of respect tho and clean up after themselves ffs. that just shows what is wrong with the whole of society. sure get pissed and fucked up but do it responsibly and respect the people/area you are in!
