Ok hopefully this will make sense. My gym takes money out of my account on the 13th of every month, As i get paid on the 15th i give the gym money to me ma so she can transfer it in on the 13th. Anyway she forgot to do it on the 13th so on the day i looked online and my statement showed the gym had taken the money and it had gone over my overdraft limit. Now it showed they had taken the money and usually i’d get fined for going over the limit. My ma then tranferred the money so it would bring it back down into my overdraft. Anyway i have just looked online and i’m up by 60 quid (which is the gym money) but there is no record on the statement of the gym taking the money but yesterday it was there in black and white but today nothing at all, This has never happened before and I am very confused at to what has gone on, have the gym fucked up or the bank, do i keep the money or wait until i hear some more, hmmm what to do! :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy

May 14, 2009 at 9:43 pm #1199485I’m gonna have to mate, I’ve never had anything disappear from my statement before. It’s very confusing.
May 14, 2009 at 9:55 pm #1199483this can happen when a direct debit run goes tits up…
usually a “refunded” direct debit should show as a contra transaction (where the money is put back) but this also depends on how your banks mainframe computer presents your online statement to the web server.. maybe they remove contra entries because they are confusing to people who don’t deal with accounting stuff regularly
I’d check with the bank and the gym (although their finance bit might be outsourced to another company or bank!), as I expect the direct debit will re-appear at some point once the gym’s accountants realise they are down on their fees..
May 14, 2009 at 9:58 pm #1199486Safe GL. What i think ill do is just leave the money in there and see what happens. I well need to quit this gym, fucking well too expensive for my liking. Got another four months to go then i am outta here lol!
May 14, 2009 at 10:03 pm #1199494how much do u pay?
May 14, 2009 at 10:03 pm #1199491i have had this where i got the refund .. but inbetween the cash going out and the refund .. the “all clear” signal had been given for what i was paing for .. so i didn’t have to pay nothing other than the bank charge and got the service i payed for scott free …shame what i was paing for was under the value of the £30 bank charge:cry: :laugh_at:

Cos my one has a swimming pool, steam, sauna etc it’s twice as much and tbh i only really use the weights. I think soon i’m just gonna take the hit and pay the last four months worth and end my contract with em. Gym memberships are well harsh if you don’t read the small print. :crazy_diz

Lately though i’ve been slacking cos it’s boring going on me own. Now though my mate has opened one i go there with my cousin and it’s much better. I got four more months on my current gym so as i’ve said just gonna phone em and see if i can finish it early and just pay it all off. They’re like a bank as well, if you just stop paying they can get a bit nasty!!

May 14, 2009 at 11:04 pm #1199484i hate it when direct debits bounce, i get charged through the roof
May 16, 2009 at 3:26 am #1199492as far as i know the court case against the banks with regards to bank charges was won by the people .. now i am not sure if it was just a perticuler stage in the proceadings that i heard about or wether it was the actual whole case .. but it’s worth looking into as if it’s the whole case then the “stand”? on reclaiming bank charges has been lifted and you can claime all cash back …
