A 50- something year old woman arrived at her seat on a crowded flight and immediately didn’t want the seat. The seat was next to a black man. Disgusted, the woman immediately summoned the flight attendant and demanded a new seat. The woman said “I cannot sit here next to this black man.” The fight attendant said “Let me see if I can find another seat.” After checking, the flight attendant returned and stated “Ma’am, there are no more seats in economy, but I will check with the captain and see if there is something in first class.” About 10 minutes went by and the flight attendant returned and stated “The captain has confirmed that there are no more seats in economy, but there is one in first class. It is our company policy to never move a person from economy to first class, but being that it would be some sort of scandal to force a person to sit next to an UNPLEASANT person, the captain agreed to make the switch to first class.” Before the woman could say anything, the attendant gestured to the black man and said, “Therefore sir, if you would so kindly retrieve your personal items, we would like to move you to the comfort of first class as the captain doesn’t want you to sit next to an unpleasant person.” Passengers in the seats nearby began to applause while some gave a standing ovation.

snopes.com: Obnoxious Airline PassengersJune 7, 2012 at 1:06 pm #1254291My view as a European with a multicultural ancestry but who trys to look after the environment is if there aren’t black people (or a variety of skin colours) on the plane you shouldn’t be on it anyway.
A dilemma I found is it costs fuckloads to get to DK by boat which is the most eco-friendly way of getting there (NL is cheaper) but I refuse to get on cheap flights as they trash the planet – also the airlines do not treat their staff well (I certainly won’t fly ryanair as their pilots always sound grumpy and pissed off when I monitor the aircraft radios and thats always a bad sign when they are in charge of everyones safety).
Of course going to somewhere like Kuala Lumpur or Penang by sea takes way longer and isn’t as pleasant a journey when there is weather (as you get 3 lots of it on that journey) so in that case I can understand why people fly but the skies are getting a bit too busy nowadays…

June 8, 2012 at 12:27 am #1254304And even more unlikely for a corporation to allow a member of staff to hold an opinion regardless of whether it’s obviously the right one or not.
I met a ryanair pilot on the train once, he was slagging them off no end, still in his uniform, saying what a joke their staff and passenger care is, I was saying don’t you think you should keep quiet about that on the train and he just said that he honestly wasn’t fussed if he got fired tomorrow he was so sick of them. Definitely not a good sign.

Whoever changed it probably did it so people wanting to read about racial issues can easily by just reading the thread title, as not everyone reads everything and may not know to read this thread otherwise. I’m sure if it’s that much of a big deal you could get it changed back. I’m sure it was done for organizational purposes and nothing to do with taking away your free speech (the actual post it’s self is exactly the same).

June 19, 2012 at 12:51 pm #1254292I honestly can’t tell who did it either and it wasn’t me – but can understand why.
The first subject line “on a plane” could relate to anything, someone discussing a planned holiday but is frightened to go on the plane, someone who isnt’ frightened but is concerned about the flights effect on environment, people asking questions about aviation etc.
We get a lot of folk here who whilst they can understand English it is not their first language and could thus get confused. So as the whole thread is about being not racist and being multicultural, we would not want that to happen 😉
