Hello, I’m new to the forum, good day to you all!
I have a question, I’m worrying a lot about this n i wonder if someone could put my mind at rest. I was at a mates house a week ago n we had the music on FAR too loud, i mean ridiculous (don’t think I’ll be doing that again in a hurry!) and as you’d expect my ears were ringin afterwards. But instead of going away after a few hours or whatever, it just carried on! Now its been a week n its still there, i hear it especially in bed when theres no other noise to distract me. I’ve started worrying that i have given myself permanent tinitus, because on the net n that it tends to say that temporary ringing always goes away after a day or two.:hopeless:
So, i’m wondering has anyone on here had it for more than a week and then its gone away? Seems it must be possible if the noise was really bad, that it would take that much longer to recover.
Cheers! And p.s., there’s all this advice about ear plugs right now, and i’ve been ignoring it but i really recommend them now cos havin this even for a week is pretty shit. im off to lobotomy this w/e n theres no way im goin without them! i just hope ive learnt my lesson before its too late … … anyway look forward to your reply xxx
April 1, 2007 at 7:17 pm #1102273you might have done some danage to your hearing. enjoy that ringing though, cos as it fades, you won’t hear that frequency again!
poor quality / badly set up sound systems do the most damage
April 1, 2007 at 7:58 pm #1102274sounds like you have done something like that ………….
i went out fri nite my ears were ringing til next day …not good …the sound system was far too loud…some of it was spoilt cos it was distorted ….April 1, 2007 at 8:56 pm #1102275to get through the tinnitus try playing something to listen to [not too loud please] to distract you from the horrible noise:crazy:
chances are the damage is done – if you are lucky your hearing will recover in part at least and you may get some of it back to normal. If you are still getting tinnintus next week go and get your hearing checked in case it can be treated [you might get lucky]
If you are caught short without earplugs again – improvise : use damp bogroll to make some temporary ones – anything is better than nothing:hopeless:

Staff in bars, pubs and clubs face permanent hearing loss because they are being bombarded by ear-splitting music, says a report.
In some cases staff are being subjected to music as loud as an aeroplane taking off, according to the TUC and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf.
They want more protection for the UK’s 500,000 bar and club workers.
TUC Deputy general secretary Frances O’Grady said simple steps, such as ear plugs, would go a long way to help.
‘Noise overload’
Other ways to protect hearing included giving staff proper breaks in noise-free areas and regularly reviewing the layout of venues.
Ms O’Grady said: “Employers can take simple steps to reduce the damage being done to staff without turning clubs into libraries.
HOW LOUD?
110 decibels – plane taking off
110db – noisy nightclub
90db – loud pub
70db – city street
50db – normal conversation“But it is up to local authorities to monitor and enforce the rules put in place to protect employees from noise overload.”
At the moment employers must act if staff are exposed to noise levels above 80 decibels on a daily basis – some clubs were found to be reaching 110 decibels.
Clubbing boom
But campaigners say local authorities are not doing enough to monitor noise levels and implement the regulations.
Tighter European Union rules are due to be brought in, but will not apply to the leisure industry until 2008.
Mark Hoda of the RNID said: “Because noise damage is cumulative and the effects not immediate, employers often fail to enforce hearing protection for their staff.”
Currently around 170,000 people suffer deafness or other ear conditions as a result of exposure to excessive noise at work.
Over the past 20 years a boom in clubbing has increased premature deafness in young people, according to previous research.
Many experience ringing in the ears and dullness of hearing after a night out – a warning sign of irreparable hearing damage.
For most this disappears after 24 hours but repeated exposure to loud music can cause tinnitus – a permanent ringing sound in the ears – as well as other forms of hearing loss.April 2, 2007 at 1:40 pm #1102272anyone got a link to club-plugs?? my wife got a pair & doesnt have any probs (when she’s wearing them) now from too loud parties. I should get some too.. 🙁 (right ear’s getting a bit iffy)..
April 2, 2007 at 1:44 pm #1102271here’s a load of various kinds – from a builders’ supply place but I suspect they would be just as good.
There are more “bling” ones for musicians etc but they are expensive…

I dont seem to be too bad for my ears, sometimes i do feel the need to move away from a rig if me ears start to hurt, i also keep my head out of the speakers unlike some people 😉
Having said that my parents have said i talk to loudly at home and that i never hear a thing they say to me, maybe i am going deaf :crazy_diz
