October 4, 2008 at 1:42 pm #1180491in regards to posting pics …
No number plates, try and keep rig banners out of them … to be honest its all down to common sense … if you owned a rig … what wouldnt you want people showing the world about your parties?
and no im not partying … im cooking dinner and probably watching more ‘my name is earl’ 🙂
October 4, 2008 at 1:48 pm #1180490Probably a good idea to keep peoples faces out of the pics too, unless you know it will be okay to post them..

October 4, 2008 at 2:50 pm #1180487speak to the rig owners and be honest about your intentions.
I stopped putting any photos of SE England raves up on this site in 2005 when the cops (particularly TVP and Hantspol) started using photos off websites as evidence against organisers.
when i used to take photos of raves in the post zero-tolerance days, what I would do is go to the crew members houses afterwards (they were also close friends) and give them a copy of all the photos I had taken.
it was then left up to the crew to collectively decide whether or not they were safe to use online. Most crews preferred that i would share the photos with them privately and not upload them anywhere.
This is a very high profile website. It has been around longer than google, and as such is monitored by law enforcement from various countries (not even just the UK) as well as the worldwide media. Don’t put up on here any form of content (pictures, text, whatever) you would not want cops or media to scrutinise.

Thanks everyone, i wasnt planning on posting any pics (espechally on party vibe as you say due to its populatiry) but i find it all very confuseing because i have seen several pics of raves iv been to showing rig details etc and they were most defenatly in the SE. Also youtube has loads of videos of raves (pratically every one iv been to over the summer seems to get posted at some point, sometimes useing rig names!) and iv never ever seen anyone ask permission etc (im in some of them grrrrr)
October 4, 2008 at 3:12 pm #1180493the internet has given people power to post and say what they like … sometimes never getting caught. The only problem is some people are reckless, dont think and this ends up on the internet. although some rig owners stick their vids and pics on the internet this is what they are comfortable showing, some rigs differ, some stick everything on … sometimes a stick ya fingers up at the authorities thing, others dont post much at all … others post nothing and just enjoy the night and maybe a few photos taken on the night in between the crew.
But as for someone not associated with the rig, as GL said … talk to them 🙂
October 4, 2008 at 4:22 pm #1180488there are a lot of pics on here and other places before 2004. Also younger people with less “security awareness” put pics on bebo..
bear in mind one persons memories of fun weekend is another persons evidence of crime and anti-social behaviour.
levels of enforcement vary across the UK (for instance Scotland and the North are at present still tolerant) but they can change at the coppers and locals whim – Norfolk went from a party every weekend to zero tolerance in the space of a few months.
I’ve spoken to many rig owners down south who don’t want their footage on youtube but they can’t exactly confiscate cameras and phones off people. TBH the video quality of YT isn’t that good for evidence gathering, but its the titles and comments what are often bait.
Bear in mind also anti-rave locals are encouraged by cops in some region to look at YT and even sites like this themselves and pass on such info as they find.

post away dont worry unless there was a bad incident at the party where the law got involved.
just use common sence.
look on our youtube & mtspace for what we got up.
theres no need to be so paranoid.
October 5, 2008 at 3:43 pm #1180489so much depends on the regions now.
its currently still safe to put up pics of Scottish parties and Northern parties, was looking at some on a Scottish site of midg(i)e death and with a youtube or myspace run by a party crew the crew of course has full editorial control.
TBH you could still get away with crowd shots of Southern parties, but be careful to obscure car reg numbers etc.
The reason I was careful of my pics is they contained a lot of pictures of stacks/equipment, as well as DJ’s doing their sets, and these pics showed very distinctive items and banners – at the time I took them some people portrayed were currently going through Court cases for parties.
We’ve had people from party crews email us before and ask us to search for and remove pictures of certain things.
SJ gallery was taken down in 2005 because people didn’t use common sense and pictures were used to get evidence for ASBOs against crews in the SE of England. its only returned now because the Court cases have been heard, and people are hopefully more clued up about
I enjoy photography and videomaking and have done so for many years now. I do also respect the wishes of people from local crews who have let me take photos, but have requested that these photos are not shared on the public internet. A good rule of thumb may be to keep a close watch on the local press. If there are no negative reports about free parties in the region then I expect its fairly safe to be more open about sharing photos within reason.
