April 12, 2007 at 3:14 pm #1102810digtal A,
when talking about “nu rave” i was refering to a movement that seams to have recived some media attension over the past year, basically as far as i can work it seams to involve people wearing oversizedmm neon clothing, and is assoicated with bands like the klaxons, Im not sure but it might be a bit of a london thing, but basically people look like thisApril 12, 2007 at 3:16 pm #1102827Dont get me started on “nu rave” …
April 12, 2007 at 3:17 pm #1102811thanks for the wikipedia link starlaugh,
whats your opinnon on it and have you been to any nights which have had a nu rave ppl at them?
xxApril 12, 2007 at 3:18 pm #1102812:bigsmile: ohh please start on nu rave!
April 12, 2007 at 3:25 pm #1102818ok…
i don’t have a problem with the music – it’s a personal taste after all. i have a slight problem with the scene for various reasons. for one thing it’s an extremely arrogant, pretentious and elitist scene – something which the real rave scene is definitely not all about. for me the true rave scene shows a lot of acceptance and tolerance, it is very unified. this is certainly not the case with “nu-rave”.
we’ve seen it done with “nu-metal”. the media-market takes the name of a well established underground scene, and pushes the name of it into the mainstream, but uses a completely different style of music to do so. the money of underground scenes often goes back into the scene – the money from “nu-rave” goes into some fat marketing twats pockets.
also it’s just a tad annoying when people reckon they are going “raving” when they mean a 18+ club night which ends at 11pm :laugh_at:
really it doesn’t annoy me too much because it’s a fad and will die out in about a year, but it looked like you were looking for ravers to find problems with this new scene, so i complied 😉

The whole thing was started off by a band called The klaxons .. they meant it as just a throw away comment .. but NME and Skins obsessed children have taken it and taken it to a new level.
The klaxons disowned it pretty quick.
But it’s still carrying on.
Alot of arguing goes on on here

Basicly Nu rave has NOTHING to do with the rave scene.
The End.April 12, 2007 at 3:28 pm #1102824http://www.partyvibe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23375
there you go pinklemonade, its a thread where people have spoken about a little while ago. You might find some helpful info there.
Well what i dont get is calling it Nu-Rave / New-Rave as its not really what i would think of as a rave. I personally think it is just another fad/trend for kids to follow, with this being the case i can see no harm in it. It would have been better if they could have chosen a better name for it though, something that suits what they are doing better….
Quote:The NME’s attempt to re-brand a strand of indie music as an evolution of rave has been met with revolt by those involved in the resurgence of the UK breakbeat hardcore scene which also has the name ‘Nu Rave’. In their review of the Klaxons’ new album, Myths of the Near Future, the NME branded all ravers of the traditional rave scene “twats with baggy trousers” which has been met with anger by many who consider themselves ravers past or present. If you read about it on different websites etc you will find a lot of times the start of Nu-Rave is becasue of NME. I thihkn the coments they made about ravers probably dont help with people views of the scene.
But i think it will slowly die off as its nothing new a band having electronic twist to their style. It is all a bit of marketing to boost sales in my opinion.
😉
April 12, 2007 at 3:28 pm #1102813yeah thanks, any oppinions voice are useful, i am glad to hear from anyone even if you are pro nu rave, its all good to me! xx
April 12, 2007 at 3:29 pm #1102805the most ironic part of it is that the indie/rave crossover happened in 1989, has always existed to an extent (drugs being the main uniting factor) so it isn’t even new…

and nu rave will be gone in a year or so, the public, (generally people my age) love to brand themselves and its always a constant battle to brand themselves with a name no one has, so eventually nu rave will be too “mainstream”… its all just a general cycle of stupidity and fashion

They are certainly that an you could argue at least they’ve made an effort, as long as they’re having a good time who are you to judge what they look like!?
We all look like wankers to someone :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:
