First chance I’ve had to check this forum in the morning for a few days – my works internet connection randomly disappeared because someone at the BT exchange had disconnected it!
It took two days for BT to get it the fault logged with the engineers despite us chasing every 4 hours for progress, they even at one point said it would take a week to fix… [1]
so I had to spend this morning setting up a computer at a backup site…
When I came back to our main office the broadband signal was back – but the router would not longer connect to the net! :you_crazy:crazy_diz
Luckily I found a “spare” BT-provided router (intended for another site) which worked but I have had to reconfigure all the WLAN PCs (as the encrypt code is now different!)….
Apparently BT are upgrading lots of broadband circuits in some areas so it looks like some planned maintenance went pear-shaped, added to which the line came back as a “newer” one which didn’t work with this old router..
The router may work if I upgrade its firmware – but of course I couldn’t find this out this morning as I didn’t have any internet access!
thought I’d let everyone know in case anyone else has encountered a similar problem.. glad to be back on line (and not have people asking me “when will it all be fixed?”)
[1] unfortunately even different providers are held back by BT as they still control the exchanges and BT Openreach have a 2-5 day turnaround :yakk: for anything
December 15, 2006 at 4:02 pm #1096381Not exactly had this problem but know of others who have encountered it.
BT= Bloody Terrible at keeping other companies connections working.
Glad you got it sorted though :weee:

just what you want to round your week off- a pain in the arse. ive been playing with my networks and they can be totally mind bogglingly tricky (having said that, ive never been a natural with cpu’s i think they hate me and sabotage themselves on purpose…
a few years back some mates of mine had a house in guildford and they becided ot get their net upgraded to cable 8meg,which i think had just come out. someone at BT basically fucked the connection in a physical (but not sexual – arf) way and BT said noone would be able to get cable on their street for 5 years, probably, or untill they overhauled the infrastructure. service with a smile, eh? they had to be content with adsl untill they moved.
im with pipex at the mo, but as you said BT owns most of teh actual wires n shit (see what a techie i am! :weee:) and i get the feeling they dont exactly prioritise requests from other companys such as pipex who i use at the mo (they seem alright to me) and we had to wait ages for BT to get the previous tennants markers off the line. bumfaces.
anyway, slight tangent, but no matter..
ITS MOTHERFUCKING FRIDAY! NO MORE MOTHERFUCKING DATAENTRY TILL MONDAY! YIPPEE MCDOODAHDAY! GET THE BEERS IN!December 15, 2006 at 4:15 pm #1096379the worst part of this is this is actually a BT connection, and in East Anglia its usually a matter of corporate pride for them to try and get things right, as BT broadband and UK ADSL was developed and perfected at Martlesham Heath which is only a few miles up the road from me!
I think BT did used to prioritise their own work – but even then they were still slow… The only other competitor is NTL who cherry pick urban areas where they already have installed cable – they turned down my business at home earlier this year (even though I had used NTL broadband in REading since 2001) as connecting my house was “too difficult”.
I work out in the sticks as well and NTL doesn’t even want the business up here….
Ofcom kicked their arses a bit but all that has happened now is that BT Openreach give equally slow service to everyone :yakk:.
December 15, 2006 at 4:29 pm #1096382No real comfort in knowing we are all in the same boat is there?
If you can speak to the engineers instead of the call centres the service is amazing though :weee:
