just curious as to why people do this? do they actually gain any performance advantage from doing so, or does it just make the car noisier and more bait with regard to cops/VOSA stopping it?
I don’t own a car but even if I did I can’t see the point, I’d want to be as inconspicuous as possible…

July 29, 2010 at 12:29 am #1227964generally, fitting after market exhausts are the reserve of individuals who want to make the car or bike more powerful and, yeah, louder.
But, the issue you raise is with the ‘amoeba’s’ that drive 1 litre saxo’s with, well, the entire halford’s catalogue stuck on them. Now, an exhaust system, is a different story, the O.E. exhaust on a car is pretty shit, the outlet manifold only lets the spent gas’s travel out of the engine at a certain pressure, this is called back pressure. With an after market system, the bends of the exit manifold are designed to get the spent gas’s from combustion chamber to the atmosphere as quickly as possible, but the problem with this is it make your car noisy. You can buy systems that are designed for performance but are still ‘sociable’ (within UK noise regulations for motor cars/bikes).
Now what these contemptuous little shits have done is put a bloody great back box on a O. E. system, still got the cat on, haven’t had the back pressure regulated and have very little clue about anything mechanical/car related.
hap that clears some of that up

What that man said!
This is ture only of you replace the the entire system including manifold , most of the idiots who mod their cars are only concerned with the back box (the bit that makes the noise ) if not matched correctly a loss of power is normally the result of fitting over size back box.
July 29, 2010 at 8:21 am #1227961So people notice them..
It’s the car equivalent of walking into a room and going ‘blap blap blap blap’
(which i have observed certain people doing)July 29, 2010 at 9:17 am #1227953i think the only possible way these look and sound cool is when they are on massive old harleys or chopper type of bikes, and when they’re loud they are fucking loud and look pretty impressive as well, but they sort of fit with the whole look of it, apparently they also save lives as well (bit sceptical tbh) as they give people quite a lot of advanced warning about them coming…
but the ones on battered novas, look and make you sound like a total tard.
July 29, 2010 at 10:19 am #1227951well they are getting attention, except its from Suffolk Constabulary and VOSA! :laugh_at:
they’ve built loads of yuppie flats overlooking where they garys’ hang out in Ipswich and these yuppies are dobbing them all into the OB…

yep i never understood it either. also the blacked out windows are another one that make your car look bait as. used to have mates always getting pulled over because they were totally blacked out, doesnt make sense if you ask me…
on a side note ive left a post on the other site that we’re both on about my mot, you were saying you might know someone you could point in my direction? ive treid to get the guy that did my bros car to do it, but he said it wont fit in his workshop..

yeah.. pretty much the exact words i was gunna say. people usually just bung a cherry popper on the end, slam it… then destroy their car when they go over a speed bump.

exactly. saw a micra go past with a giant exhaust the other day. turned round to see what kind of speedy modified car it was and a micra hobbled past. i cringed.

July 29, 2010 at 2:40 pm #1227952is it called a cherry popper because it helps the gary’s pull 12/13 year old girls? At least until CEOP get them and they end up on the nonce list, although I expect most of them consider a driving ban to be more of a punishment.

Yep. there was a swoop with traffic cops and vosa a few weeks ago. Seems like a bait thing to do really. if you’ve got a car in the first place, and live in a fucking huge mostly rural county, surely it would be more sensible to drive to somewhere further away?
whilst I don’t condone heroin use or dealing, I was amused when I heard of this Asian lad what was dealing in West London for years before being nicked, because he drove a battered old Nissan.
Metpol were so used to looking for the sort of blinged up “pimpmobile” that some young British Asian lads have (there’s a unique style to these, hard to explain but if you’ve spent any time in West London, Reading, Slough or Aylesbury you will have seen at least one) they overlooked him for ages..

ah i see. well, a lot of people are from near there and apparently its a good place to race as its pretty much circular for all the people who cant drive their shit cars

LOL. Yah, i know what ya mean
July 29, 2010 at 6:47 pm #1227949AnonymousHi all, yep never really saw the point myself , even if it improves performance which your garunteed the insurance company is gonna love and whack up the price of your insurance . I guess the other thing is most lads when they were young made car noises when they pushed their match box toy cars around the carpet , i think its just an extension of that . So……if my theory is right this mean they make the same noise when pushing their car as its broke down ? If you see one at the side of the road pushing a blinged up saxo , just stop put your window down as if to help .Then make that kids noise we all used to make and speed off leaving the boy racer in a cloud of dust ……very statisfying i think you’ll find
July 30, 2010 at 10:17 am #1227958I used to love load exhausts. It was great, having a background in club racing i was always modding minis and ford. I used to think the louder the better but now I’m a bit older i tend to be a bit more subtle.

I think he might mean these
July 30, 2010 at 7:25 pm #1227950AnonymousHi Agent 15 , you mean cars of 1968 needed exhausts fitted to make them louder lol , those cars back then had no cats no engine management system but……could be fixed at the side if the road with nothing more than sticky back tape and a fairy liquid bottle ……ask blue peter lol
