this is really good news; a brilliant day for London and the UK… (and I’m not even a great fan of sport!)
I understand peoples concerns but IMO London has already become a shitty, violent, polluted, locked down city… decent people are being squeezed from one side by paranoid cops and authorities and from the other by violent criminals…
London is now a city where many young people have lost hope and only see fighting, violence, and the humiliation and destruction of an “enemy” as a way to prove themselves – this anger and despair is reflected in the violence on the streets today…
but maybe todays events may (with the help of whatever public bodies are supposed to fund new sportspeople) encourage some of these youths to channel their agression and desire to conquer into sport rather than violence?
ISTR learning in history the whole idea of the Olympics were so nations could compete at sports instead of having wars with each other – which seems like a good idea to me…
we’re gonna need all these new sportspeople to avoid being rinsed in 2012 anyway…
