hows the job going?
July 17, 2006 at 2:40 pm #1083063I am stuck in the office but luckily we can have the doors open. I must collect up the papers that the electric fan has blown onto the ground before they end up in the yard and I have to chase them across rural Suffolk.
those midges are a formidable foe for their size.

(perhaps you should introduce those insectivorous plants to your garden?)
whilst trekking to the small beach party at the weekend (had to walk about 3.75 miles from the nearest train station [1]) I went through a footpath passing between two fields; in one part where trees had been permitted to grow there were clouds of midges.
I am not ashamed to say I ran like hell through this bit (and did not get bitten). Maybe the English ones do not bite though.
[1] the resorts own station had been removed as the cliffs gave way due to sea erosion and it was unsafe to keep running trains there!
July 17, 2006 at 2:41 pm #1083065Spent yesterday sweating our collective bollox off shifting vehicles around in the vain hope we might actually repair at least one and get it back on the road! Nice to spend the rest of the evening eating outside and indulging in ice cold vodka and redbull while watching the dogs go mental at each other 🙂

Why not post up some details of what is wrong with it?
There’s a few people round our way on this board and many of them have cars and vans; maybe between us we could find a solution or source spares for it – or if the vehicle is too far gone even someone who could make use of the parts or scrap metal..
July 17, 2006 at 2:51 pm #1083070i used to have sundews but the problem is that the garden is actually pretty dry and when i was away they dried out and died:hopeless:
midges come from my neighbours ‘pond’ in the field AFAICT bbut the good news is we have swifts in vast numbers this year:groucho: and i have noticed a impressively reduced number of midges since they arrived:wink:
its the numbers of them that come up on a cool evening thats scary…:weee:
best solution is to be inside when they are swarming…..

July 17, 2006 at 3:01 pm #1083066Theorhetically the Renault 5 should be ok to go through MOT when I’ve put some carb cleaner through it but it does have a bad knocking when cornering (which as it’s a GTX tends to be done at high speed), checked the bearings and no probs there so we’re going to check out the drive shafts etc. The fourtrak is a rebuild job, we’ve got a running donor (4 wheel drive is knackered on the donor) so we’ve got to swap the turbo’s, starter motor, replace windscreen and sort some of the electrics. We’ve also got 2 range rovers that will will turn into one good one one day 🙂 Main problem is lack of cash, we’ve just spent 2 years rennovating a house and now we need someone to buy it (£300k if someones got a giro coming in soon) Me ma’s got a house to rennovate in Italy, which is why we need to get the fourtrak on the go to tug her van over with (incidently, if anyone’s up for a bit of graft over there, food and booze will be provided) PS Renault 5 was £85 and has served well for 2 years, I love Diss auctions 😉
