Alrite mate (did you mean to send this by PM, as it is on the main forum)?

if you want info for your coursework I reckon there are also also a few others who might have stuff to contribute or have seen the effects locally in their regions..

There is definitely an issue with younger people being priced out of the housing market because of rich incomers (often from London) getting second homes, this happens in East Anglia and many other semi-rural areas. It forces a lot of younger people out of semi-rural areas and back to urban/city areas merely to have somewhere to live or stay in work…

But its a lot more complex than people being “good or bad” or “incomers vs locals”…

IME in many cases there has been active collusion between the “middle class” older people in local communities (i.e the ones who have lived there as part of that community for many years), who are knowingly cashing in on the second home boom and then themselves moving out of area (often emigrating away from the UK) using the proceeds of this sale

Many often go to countries where they run a more authoritarian regime (but based on the “Empire/Commonwealth system of government”) , which these British expats actively support.

The irony is that it is often these people who whinge about the “decline in community spirit” who are selling their houses to the incomers.

We have ghost towns round here where all the shops have closed due to the lack of people actually living in the homes.

The price of housing has risen by a factor of 10 since we moved into the area too
