Right I have decided to make some changes in my life and one of them is to get my driving license, got lessons booked and i am looking about to get a car now to practice in and then use as my first car.

Any suggestions of what makes a good first car? I have been eyeing up a Mazda 323 1.6i and a Peugot 306 1.4xs, i refuse to have a 1ltr or a 1.1 as i have ha da go at driving these engine sizes and they just dont seem to have enough ooomph 😉

As its going to be my first car i want to spend about a grand may a grand and a half.

      Suggestions welcome!

I can recommend the peugout 306 – I had one up until recently and they are very reliable [diesel one is what I had] and drive well. Having never been a fan of anything that size I would get another one like a shot as I loved driving it and ended up selling it to a friend so as to know it would be appreciated

VW polo’s are really cheap, i got mine for 1.4L £1200 for a Nreg with only 60,000 miles. They are also really reliable.

I am not too sure if i could insure a 205 gti,

Thing i hate when i am looking about is some of the cars i like have been owned by chavs so they make there car look like they have coated it in super glue and ram raided Halfords.

never buy ford or vauxhall, they are crap

i recommend japanese cars for relaibility. diesal engines are more reliable and bit more economical so a better bet for second hand cars
