I’ve realised I’ve got an extra space on my world clock as the timezones in Malaysia and some bits of Australia are duplicated (both currently UK domestic time + 07:00), and that I’ve left out a timezone for USA/Canada. I know the USA has multiple timezones due to its size, but there presumably is an “average” one which would go down the middle of the country. Unfortunately I’m not that good with US geography so am not really sure which states / areas are in the middle of the USA.

      which timezone/area should I use?

I believe Eastern Time is the most populous timezone and Central Time the one that covers the largest area, so perhaps one of those two would be best?

US time is usually quoted as Eastern by my American colleagues (everybody west of New York and Washington DC adjusts). Currently Eastern time is 5 hours behind British Summertime here in the UK.

It’s pretty easy, Eastern is 1 hour ahead of Central, which is 1 hour ahead of Pacific (Los Angeles etc). That covers everybody except Hawaii and Alaksa (who confusingly have the a slightly different one each). Alaska is usually called Hawaii and Aleutian and runs at UTC-9, Hawaii runs at UTC -10.

The differences change with summertime daylight saving, so you get EDT (winter) and EST (summer).

Do you get the feeling that American posters aren’t reading the site very much for reasons I don’t know?
