it’s tradition in my friend group that if you pass out you get drawn all over. normally i don’t care because its normally just a shitty drawn cock or coloured me in but this time was different, instead of drawing on me they decided it would be really funny to write coon on my forehead in big letters with permanent marker. when I woke up i had no clue that it had happened and no one said anything and all had straight faces. a couple of us go down the road to go get some breakfast, on the walk im getting stared at by everyone and where my friend lives is a very african/Caribbean neighbourhood so most of them are black. as im getting closer to the shop i got really self concious because everyone was looking at me like they wanted to kill me and i still had no clue why. this happened again on the walk back to my friends yard but as we were nearing the house 3 massive black guys just stop me and went mad at me about do i think im funny and all this, after they finally stopped shouting i was like what have i even done?!? and they told me while my mates are standing there laughing there tits off. 3/5 of us that went out last night are black and they constantly go out their way to pull tricks like this on me because they love watching me (a skinny white boy) get shouted at and abused by black people. it was funny at first but now its wearing thin. this was nearly as bad as when they turned me into a gollywog without me knowing!
should i tell them to give it a break and maybe just make it a bit more of a tasteful joke rather than me just getting agro off the locals? or just let them keep doing it as when it doesn’t happen to you it’s pretty funny to witness? let me know your thoughts

I would be very pissed off but then I would be fairly pissed off if anyone drew anything on me whilst asleep; not really my kind of humour. Seems to be very popular with some ravers though, I just don’t really get it.

If they could see it was causing offence to other people but still didn’t tell you then that would be the un-acceptable line if I look at it as objectively as possible.

In my opinion thats not even funny.
Seriously, you could of got the shit kicked out of you; how would they have felt then?
I’ve never been one for this kind of ‘joke’ though. Essentialy it is just bullying, and when you write racist comments such as that it is also dangerous. Maybe i’ve just got a shit sense of humour but i like to think not, i just wouldn’t risk my friends getting beaten up for a cheap laugh

Drawing on the lightweight how passes out first is common and can be funny…. but racism is never cool

did they do it with the intent of being racist? or were they just being idiotic?

haha it was about 4 in the morning when i died, we went to see madness they were sick, i know this is my point precisely im not bothered about being drawn on its just something we do and live with it and they get it back just as often as i get it done to me. their excuse for it is just we are black and we wouldnt let you go out like that if we didnt go with you. like when those guys got angry today they just spoke up after laughing for abit and told them and me what they had done. these guys are pretty casual about racism they just find the funny side of it like they have no hate or prejudice for any race of people, if you have seen balls of steel when they are together they remind me of the militant black guy in their humour

Nah, anything thats gonna put you in a position where you could be seriously injured and severely beaten is not a joke, it’s plain cruel. If they really don’t realize this then you need to explain it to them, otherwise maybe you need to re-think about your choice in mates.
                  Peace x

well this is just the problem is, basically i cant remember when it first happened but for the past couple of years we have been drawing on each other and it just gets worse every time! i still find it pretty funny like a couple months ago one of them passed out from to much drink and smoke so i decided to make him the nazi ambassador, covered him head to toe in Swastika’s and random german words. so you can kinda see why i dont get to pissed off with it, i think we might just have to put a end to it and call it a day and say it was fun while it lasted 😛

You should chloroform them and skin them while they are unconscious.

I think that the people concerned will be expecting reprisals. My style would be much harder to trace – like a burning cross on the lawn and a noose through the letter box…

…no, actually, just finding friends who aren’t 99% moron might be a better plan. Less stress.

It might have seemed cruel, but the idea of drawing on people when they are comatose is to teach them NOT to pass out in future – if you can’t handle your drink/drugs, then don’t play. Because some people won’t just draw rude words on you, they’ll rape you and kill you (extreme example, but it has been known).

It might be funny to draw on your mates when you’re 15 but ( if you are 19) maybe it’s time to wise up, you sound just as bad as them drawing swastika’s on them – and I personally think this is a pretty dangerous game you all are playing as the stakes are getting higher and boundaries are being pushed – they / you could have been done for inciting racism- the police arnt gonna give a fuck about your games…..

You need to know your mates will look after you when you’ve passed out- as pat says some people push it even further, I felt physically sick when I heard of a GIRL i knew shoving a tampon up a guys arse when he’d passed out, thinking it was funny. She could have been prosecuted if he’d gone to the police and that would seriously have fucked her career ( in the caring profession (????!!!) ) up….. Just coz you’re pissed when you do something doesn’t mean you are not responsible

One of our mates used to pass out all the time, his friends took pictures and then made a little shrine to him in the toilet, – with candels and everything, they thought it was funny ( and I must admit so did I) but he later told me he felt really humiliated, he didn’t however stop passing out, therefore keeping giving them ammunition / photo opportunities…

I’d have a word with yourself and your mates and maybe think of something nicer to do for each other when you’ve passed out ….. Like a cuppa in the morning :p

I never looked at it from a career/humiliation aspect and it has opened my eyes. its not that we are immature its just something that happens i guess. when we draw on each other its always in one of our houses and only during a chilling session/back in from town, i know at the end of the day these guys have my back whether it’s being a wingman or propping me up on the way home. we have spoken about it and its still going to happen but calm it down a lot. now we are going for who can be the most artistic 😛

It was interesting reading this thread last night, as there’s this (really vulnerable) girl who (a lot of us have tried to help) in a domestically violent ‘relationship’ and I saw on her ‘boyfriends’ Facebook profile ( its open and I was being nosey) and he has tons of pictures up of her asleep /passed out with stuff drawn / written / put on her face, just fucking horrid and he is defo into humiliating her by doing this (she late 20’s he mid 30’s) he also beats shit out of her too, I’m surprised he doesn’t take photos of her bruises to show to his mates….. Sorry a bit off topic but so so sad, as not done in jest

My mates do it loads but because of recent world events you do have to watch yourself about anything what could be considered racist – and that includes taking the mick out of Germans as its also trivialising the amount of trauma people in North Europe have and still have to deal with (World war II is still being fought in many peoples minds, and not just old people either). I’m not advocating censorship or excessive political correctness but especially economic times get bad that increases division and anger between people and anything what stirs up racial/cultural divisions has consequences. When people are angry enough and feel they don’t have anything to lose, they will fight rather than talk.

On a lighter note when I first I read this I had just finished fixing a computer in the housing co-op. This had become unreliable due to the battery on the motherboard running down and causing the motherboard clock and the operating system clock to get skewed – this means that the computer reports 1980-01-01 to Windows and really confuses things. I was working in here (which looks just like what a similar office of that era)
