So in the last year i’ve seen two drug using girls in their 30’s who are very very scared of the dentist and have had extreme tooth pain and had to face their fear of the dentist due to how bad the pain was.
so guys are you afraid of the dentist? do you take good care of your oral health. Any tales of fear or crazy pain yourself?
i am very grateful for my teeth and do not take them for granted!!!

I used to have panic attacks (little ish onces) when I went, then I learnt mindfulness, now I am fine.
November 24, 2011 at 3:08 am #1247136personally i don’t fear the dentist except his news on how well my gums are doing.
November 24, 2011 at 8:35 am #1247141You have to go NOW.
My back tooth crumbled after a botched filling and my heavy drug use at the time made it all worse. When I finally plucked up the courage to go to the dentist (Like 3 years later and I was now in Sweden! It was too late and they had to pull it. Luckily for me it was the last one at the back. It might not be good news for you if you wait any longer.
BUT
When I went to the dentist in London I was heavily using and was think I was actually still high (even though I had not taken anything that day)when I went. The filling they did was excruciating as the numbing injections DIDNT WORK. They used like FOUR and would wait, and then start and I would say ARGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH so they would give me another one…. The numbing stuff didn’t kick in until about an HOUR after I had left the dentist. I ended up having a filling replaced with out any effective pain/numbing agent and every time they hit a nerve I literally felt I was going to die. When it was finished I cried for about 40 minutes in my car. I couldn’t drive as I was shaking so much.
Moral of that story is NO DRUGS FOR A WHILE BEFORE GOING TO THE DENTIST
I used to have receding gums and extra sensitive teeth. A flouride mouthwash NOT a normal mouthwash helped as it put a protective kayer over the teeth and made them less sensititve. My gums were soooo sensitive and sometimes it was even a little painful to breath with cold air hitting them.
Use a toothpaste like sensodine also. Makes a difference.
When you are getting on it try not to go a couple of days without brushing as all the caustic stuff is just loving eroding your teeth and gums.November 24, 2011 at 10:31 am #1247131I don’t like dentists any more than any other medcial stuff but if my teeth are giving me hassle then I visit them, and I have the regular checkups. I am on some insurance plan these days, so the cost isn’t an issue.
that said when I lived in Reading the dentist charged me £50 whilst on the same day our cat had to go to the vet for a unrelated checkup and they looked at his teeth as well for £35 – my obvious argument was “why can’t I just go to the vet instead? its cheaper, by and large all mammals have the same teeth structure (coinicidentally both me and the cat did not have the 4 outer teeth than some animals and humans have but others do not) and the nurses are friendlier and better looking 😉

it’s not that bad but that said when i was a little kid when my teeth were falling out i never pulled them because it felt physically wrong to do. used to take ages for em to fall out and would be annoying me for days… should have man’d up and pulled em. these days i don’t mind fillings, injections etc but i’ve never had to have a tooth pulled yet but if i was told it had to happen i’m not sure if it’d bother me that bad.
November 26, 2011 at 1:27 pm #1247134The dentist is scared of me WINNING!
November 26, 2011 at 4:54 pm #1247132I once had a wise-cracking dentist who dared me to bite him and was surprised when I did :you_crazy:
I don’t like dentists much but have to say that the lady dentist who suggested I listen to techno real loud on headphones while she drilled a filling solved most of my phobia about dentists as it was the sound of the drill I despised most 🙂
