excellent stuff. For those outside the UK; morris dancing is still practised here (its an ancient English ritual performed before going binge-drinking and chasing after loose women.)

The sticks are for hitting people with [1] (we are not allowed to carry guns in the street here) – but it evens things out with the cops who also have them.

[1] – this is actually true! according to the morris dancers themselves there was often a big fight afterwards between villages, and the dances were often shut down and people put in the stocks, gaol (ye old spellling) or banned from the county – the old equivalent of an ASBO.
