      hi all.
i was just wondering if any one’s got any info on camping regulations.
can you just find some nature and pitch a tent without being bothered by some sort of park ranger or summin. me and my girl were thinking of going camping but dont wanna stay at some crumby camp site with a bunch of louts. we just wanna experience some of the natural english countryside.
also any suggestions about places to visit will be much appreciated (preferably within 3 hours drive of london)
all input will be very much appreciated

you can’t legally stay on private property … which covers everywhere in the country (sweden has a good law that says you can camp anywhere for 48 hours, as long as it’s not literally in someone’s garden)

but just for a night you can get away with some places. just make sure you bury your shit, take your litter and check for livestock / wildlife

there are some really nice, small scale camp sites around devon and cornwall, but this weekend everywhere is going to be a bit over-run i expect

but if you’re up for coming this way i recommend looking for any camp sites on dartmoor (one near fingle bridge is good) or north devon (big meadow close to combe martin is good, or try your luck in a field on the cliffs above woody bay)

when i say a campsite is good i am not the devon tourist board. i fucking mean it

there are regulations obviously i.e. you gotta camp on a site – but me n 3 mates pitched up in the middle of goodwood last week was wicked. well contained fire had sum women come round saying she was the ‘fire watcher’ (twisted firewatcher) saying ‘make sure you put out your fire’ blatently just DO-GOODER-DOG-WALKER say that 5 times! lol go for it when you just pitch up anywhere its best! :weee:

the “rules” for dartmoor are that you can camp anywhere that is access land as long as it is not in site of a road (why would you want to be?) and that you are not in sight of another tent (groups can find litle hollows to hide in, or join tents with canvas – who it to say where one structure ends and the other begins!) They are not up for fires (with fairly good reason – bracken, heather, gorse and even the peat you sit on are flamable in the right conditions, and almost imposssible to fight, while ground nesting birds and archaeology and reptiles and insects and stuff are everywhere)

So, if anyone fancies being law abiding and hasle free its a good (or god as my computer insists) place to camp.

Oh, and I think it might be a one night only rule.
