Hi everyone,
I’m looking to get a van kitted out with stove, bed etc., something like Tank Girls. Does anyone know any good websites or anything where I can look through a few? eBay is only having limited success. Not looking to buy just yet, but I want to scope out what comes up, how often, what price etc. first.
Cheers, Merry crimbo!

we got Dirty Gertie from auto trader (which was a mega shock to me as usually they are comercial vans or ‘propper motor homes’ rather than ‘propper vans’)
we looked on ebay and there we’re some lovely ones and we looked on gumtree too, and preloved, and saw some lovley ones there too
also go on
loads of info there and also people selling their own vans – and again some lovely ones
whats your price range / type of van you want etc ?
good luck – I am loving mine :bounce_fl
December 25, 2010 at 11:43 pm #1233202Well my price range is yet to be decided, could literally be anything between 1.5 and 8 grand, depending on how stuff goes over the next couple of months.
That tribal living site looks like a good place for general info as well as ads, cheers for the link :bounce_fl
As for size, what I would really love is the fooking massive lwb version of your van, but bearing in mind insurance for me on a 1 litre polo is £2.5k, I think I’ll probably be looking at something the size of a long wheel base transit.
December 26, 2010 at 12:35 am #1233200I’ve only ever had insurance on 1.1 little chaep to run cars before but went on tribel living and got a link to a really good nsurer – cant remember who they are – as rather pissed at the mo :laugh_at: but it was much cheaper than I thouhg t it’d be
but its also much much better if its already registered as a motor home or caravan – as our mate has paid comercial van insurance doing his van up for the last 8 months and its cost him a fortune!!
I was advised to get a merc as they have ‘bullet proof’ engines 28000+ miles on the clock etc beofre you get major problems with the engine ( esp as most of Marcus’s mates have got em too – so he knows em) – but the body work can go before – so gertie has her knickers on ( a massive waterproof thing) as to put her in storage where I live is about 140+ a month :hopeless:
i dont know where you are based but the best vans we saw online we in wales and up north – eps where peopke have places to store them under cover.at the end of the season lots of aussies and new zelanders sell off their VW’s in a street in lundun = but I must say when we drove dirty gertie up to the vw convention – she’s so much bigger and lovelier I was happy I’d gone for her over a poor lady’s vw – as they far too out of my price range 😉
December 26, 2010 at 11:10 am #1233203Yeah, I am into VWs in terms of modification etc., but there’s no bloody way I’m staying in one for any amount of time, they’re crap!
Cheers for the tip on the insurance, I’d not thought of that.
Now you come to mention the bullet proof element, I have remembered how shit and probably ragged Transits are :laugh_at:
The one I had for work had decided that 40mph was quite enough actually, and if it fancied going into 5th gear it would let me know, but don’t hold my breath. The gearstick was basically used to change the pitch of the engine noise, it had next to no effect on the driving.
It was a tipper too so we had to jump up and down in the back of it to get it up slippy hills :crazy_diz
December 26, 2010 at 11:17 am #1233201makes friends with some travellers.. i know people who are always selling their vans
December 26, 2010 at 11:23 am #1233204I do try but I have difficulty finding any. Need to get to more parties, I just never know what’s going on until it’s happened 🙁
