          I’ve seen the web reports from this. ISTR it was a very small sample size, only about a thousand people or so.

          TBH though I reckon a real poll would probably show virtually 50/50 split of people supportive and opposed to drug use, i.e a stalemate situation as both sides are very stubborn.

          OTOH drug users also only cause problems when they are nicking stuff or going psycho at people; otherwise few would actually realise they are on drugs!

          Its worth remembering as well that Britain only really seriously had a drugs culture (i.e drugs being relatively easy to get) starting from the early to mid 1990s – and with our existing cultures of bingeing, precociousness and street violence there are bound to be problems.

          A lot of the old skool ravers I know got themselves into serious problems through overdoing things; and nowadays people start drugs a lot earlier.

          I first took them at age 15 – OTOH from speaking to my younger friends I hear that people start as early as age 12/13; at the same time there are more tests and exams in school and more hurdles to go through (it seems kids must attend college/uni these days whether they want to or not).

          Unfortunately kids who take drugs earlier in life don’t do as well in exams initially or take longer to get paper qualifications (they are not “made stupid” though!) and that extra delay disadvantages them because there is lots of competition for jobs etc from both home and abroad. Thus they feel further marginalised and alienated and more drawn to dysfunctional lifestyles.

          There are lots of kids born so society can afford to throw away a few. Harsh but true.

          TBH I think a lot of the problems are because these kids realise they are unwanted by anybody (often including their parents) and “surplus to societys requirements” so a vicious circle of drugs and crime is both a coping and revenge mechanism. I can understand why they do this; nearly went down that route myself.

            It just makes me laugh that they can put such a one sided story on the six o’colck news!

            Anyone watching it, who didnt have experience with drugs would think that “drugs are bad hmkay” because most people believe what they see on the tele.

            In reality there are different levels of drug taking, and while I accept that some people do commit crime to feed there drug habit-It’s not usually the case for people who take drugs in a social situation-but this difference is never highlighted!

              one problem is it is actually forbidden to give a positive view on drugs on British daytime television! This is from the Ofcom programme code.

              Drugs, smoking, solvents and alcohol
              1.10 The use of illegal drugs, the abuse of drugs, smoking, solvent abuse
              and the misuse of alcohol:
              • must not be featured in programmes made primarily for children
              unless there is strong editorial justification;
              • must generally be avoided and in any case must not be condoned,
              encouraged or glamorised in other programmes broadcast before the
              watershed, or when children are particularly likely to be listening, unless
              there is editorial justification;
              • must not be condoned, encouraged or glamorised in other programmes likely to
              be widely seen or heard by under eighteens unless there is editorial justification.

              As most news programmes can be seen or heard by under 18s. Even post watershed (21:00) programmes can be caught out as the rules say “when children are particularly likely to be listening” and whingers can argue that many teenagers may be watching the news to learn current affairs for their studies..

                this is true, people look at this n only see the one side. yeah they fuck people over but its about what you take and how much. anyway people know the risks and take drugs at their own risk.

                when somone famous gets seen with anything small that might even resemble drugs then thats it, their automatically an addict
