Art after Dark.
On April 9th 2005 the Whatman River Park in Maidstone will be transformed. The people of Maidstone and beyond will witness and participate in a new medium of artistic creativity that will appeal to people of all ages. This uplifting community event will incorporate ready made artworks, performances, ambient music, local bands, slide and video projections, installations, sculptures, green awareness, creative workshops, UV art extravaganza. The public are invited to create artworks collectively which we hope will inspire individuals’ creativity and develop both confidence and community spirit. Wherever possible we will be using recycled or reuseable materials for this event.
There is an open invitation to artists and performers to collaborate and showcase their work. The event will also be a fantastic opportunity for video artists and photographers to create art.
Anybody who wants to be involved in this inspiring event in any capacity can contact us. info@lightenuparts.com Visit the CONTRIBUTE page to see some of the available opportunities.

April 5, 2005 at 11:22 pm #1064792AnonymousHiya
I’m one of the organisers for Art After Dark. Yeah, there’s been so much negativity about maidstone, and such a seeming lack of things going on. most of my friends have moved away from here because of that. I thought i’d try and put something positive in instead of giving up on it. that said, i will probably move away soonish, but not before i’ve kick-started some good stuff! It’s all shaping up to be a wicked event, and one that I hope will change everybody’s minds about what Maidstone and its residents are capable of…April 6, 2005 at 8:27 am #1064801good on ya mate, for organising this, I used to live in maidstone with paulm and we moved to brighton a year ago as brighton has shit loads goin on and is a really fun place, whereas maidstone ummm….has a giant foral sheep (?!). It’s really good to see something like this taking shape, good luck and hopefully will make it down! :horay: :horay: :horay:
April 6, 2005 at 9:34 am #1064803Hello.
I looked at this website and thought it looked like quite a nice event, so I sent a CD to them and they’ve asked me to play first (and also later on in the day, too).
Now, although I LOVE TECHNO, when the Sun’s out, my music takes on a much more peaceful nature.
As it’s this Saturday, and I only found out about playing yesterday, it turns out that none of my immediate friends are able to come as they’re working, or some other random excuse. This being the case, if anyone is thinking of going, please come and hear me play and say hello to me afterwards and have a drink with me, otherwise I’ll be there on my own and THAT’S NO FUN.
The band is called Dexter’s Friends and I’ll be on at 2 (and again at 5 – 5:30). I’ll be the bloke on stage, you can’t miss me, I’ll be the only one there, probably looking a little lost.
Please support your hairy little friend
Oh yeah, if anyone is going from Reading, I could really do with a lift…

Looks like I will B working in Winsor sat day, so may be able to sort lift from there, but may make you a little late if u are the first DJ, Do u know what time they want u there.
April 7, 2005 at 10:53 am #1064804Hello Paul,
I’m being asked to play my first set at 14:00 (I’m not DJing though, I’m playing live).
I’m trying to sort out a lift from Reading which will be a shit lot easier than making it to anywhere else beforehand – it turns out that my buddy passed their driving test yesterday, so that’s pretty hopeful too.
To be honest, if you’re working during the day, I’d probably get there a bit late for my first slot, but I FULLY appreciate you trying to help me out – thank you thank you thank you.
I’ll still hope to see y’all there, though…
peace
April 13, 2005 at 2:26 pm #1064802did anyone go to this, if so how was it, me and paul were in Reading that night (and there was no way I was letting PaulM drive back to Brighton when he’d only had 2 hours sleep!!). :weee: 😛 :bounce_m:
April 14, 2005 at 9:27 am #1064805Hello.
I went to this, it was quite a nice intimate affair, but there was NO BEER!
I managed to get my hands on some filthy white cider off some dude, which did the job. I had to get back to Reading before the end, so I dunno if anything happened later on – it should have done, the lights and projections after the Sun went down were absolutely wicked, the mayor came to turn them on, apparently.
Lovely day, but really cold…
April 14, 2005 at 9:46 pm #1064793AnonymousHey dudes i went down to whatman park to see the whole sha-bang it was wicked. However I have one question.
In my opinion the BEST BAND EVER played there and i really wanna find out more about them. They came on at abot 3:30ish and they played funky stuff. There was a guy who had a red korg by the looks of it and he played the organ, there were 2 singers – a bald one who played the bass and one with long hair who played the guitar and wore bright clothes.
So yeah, anyone got any ideas of who they are, or a site. I want their cd.
Cheers…
