Got an interview on wensday at the local recruiting office. Thinking bout joining up :crazy_dru Time to grow up, it will help sort my head out & get me away from the area i’ve got stuck in & stop me dwelling on women, lonlyness and sliping down the slope of drugs n drink.
Just hope they accept me now

May 19, 2008 at 8:10 pm #1172118Don’t wanna put the kibosh on things here.. but please make sure you are joining up for the right reasons…
Years ago someone could join the forces without ever having to fight in active duty.. now its a foregone conclusion that you will end up in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
I’m a forces brat myself both my parents were in the airforce and i have lots of mates that are in the army, airforce and marines and alot of them want out.. as far as they’re concerned they’re not fighting “our war” so without going into it too much.. i’ve lost a few mates to so called “friendly fire” amongst other things for the Uk an USA’s so called war on terrorism…
Please please please think about this…
May 19, 2008 at 8:20 pm #1172131im sure he’ll make the right decision.. ive heard the army doing great things for people’s mind and stability.
my sister was so close to joining.. couldnt hack it myself. problem with authority and all.
May 19, 2008 at 8:21 pm #1172123I’m really quite shocked to read this from you AHC!!
from someone who seems to have ‘fought against’ the ‘system’ for pretty much all your adult life
it seems a real turn around in your thinking?
I may be wrong, as I dont personally know you – just from what I can make out about you from your posts here
there are lots of other ‘ways to grow up’ other than forfitting you individuality and spirit and becoming a number
but good luck to you if it’s waht you want and you think it’ll sort your current ‘problems’ out
May 19, 2008 at 8:22 pm #1172119Yup i’m totally with TankGirl on this one… :crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy:
May 19, 2008 at 9:34 pm #1172106Anonymousi’ve always been a ‘loyalist’ in ways though the system is flawed & has many unjust laws. The army is full of normal working class lads like myself though I’ve always lived on the edge of society and done very alternative things. I think I can use alot of these skils in the army.
I’m thinking of joining for me to put some stability and respect in my life. Not to uphold any Ideals, the old for Queen & Country thing dont realy stand anymore realy. I have respect for the queen & my countrys flag, anyone who knows me knows this. Its just the governments I have a problem with like most people.
Army life is about team work and comradeship and getting a difficult job done as a team even if you think certain wars are wrong or right. I think when in that situation you do it for your mates and the nco’s who you have built up respect for through time.
Do you think the avrage German soldier in ww2 in Russia thought they were fighting for the right cause? They fought for there mates, unit & for survival.I’m joining for me to make myself a better person & lern things about myself & to get a few skills. Its a big desision & has its good n bad points.
May 19, 2008 at 9:35 pm #1172107Anonymousthey might not even have me yet.
May 20, 2008 at 8:20 am #1172121It seems a rather extreme solution to the issues you are describing to me
I take it you dont have a problem with being shouted at and told what to do all the time?

May 21, 2008 at 10:16 am #1172120AnonymousMR AHC,I think you have some work to do before joining up buddy. You gotta get rid of the addictions before you can do all that and get in the right frame of mind buddy.
I’m sure you know that, we’ve both been there and done it, its just harder each time you re-visit the same old thing you’ve been doing for years on end.
If you want to change then I have faith in you mate – GO FOR IT!

i find it easyer to quit when i’ve got something to do, my habit aint a major one at the mo this is why it could be a good thing to join up.
i’ve read through the forces policy on drugs and if you get caught while ur in the forces they come down on you like a ton of brics (litraly) but they understand that it goes on outside and many young people use outside. But its a deffo no no once your in.I missed the interview today anyway.

irish protestant stock brought up around the orange halls of liverpool n salford, played in a flute band till i was 13 rebeled n went on the road at 17. still have fond memorys of the parades and cultral side but northern irish politics can kiss my arse.
was an idea spoke to a recruiting seargent about joining an army corp of drums/flute band the other day on a whim. been taking to much gear recently n need an escape before my life goes back down the pan…
May 23, 2008 at 6:52 am #1172122Good luck no matter what happens :bounce_g:
Respect to you for trying to sort out your life :bounce_g:
Really hope it works for you :group_hug
May 23, 2008 at 9:06 am #1172114worth a go, but you will need to quit drugs/booze totally and get fit very soon to pass the medical as you are fairly near the top accepted age group for a regular soldier (I think you may have as little as a year left to do this)
If I was in your situation I’d sell the rig, buy a load of gym kit with the proceeds and start working out now.. move away totally from anywhere there are drugs, I’d even wipe my phone numbers / MSN / email records and wouldn’t even bother with the last few months of the season…
the Army fitness training régime is here (in the Guardian of all places!)
