April 15, 2008 at 2:21 pm #1160571many council IPs are just people looking from libraries or their high school/college…
the police use normal “home” broadband addresses these days if they want to do covert stuff
that said this site has been monitored by British and foreign law enforcement for years and we’ve not had any major grief – in 10 years two policemen have posted saying “free parties are illegal”, a bit like that “Dont’ Commit Crime” sticker you see at petrol stations :laugh_at:
you just have to assume that your site is being watched. Its a public forum after all. The same goes for murdochspace, bebo, facebook and all the rest of ’em.

What’s the IP address it/they are coming from ? And can you get the browser identification string ? I can check my site logs, see if I’ve seen it too.
Quite apart from being monitored – probably unlikely for a very new site – thanks to the crawlers you can safely assume anything written on a public forum will be seen by anyone and everyone (and that includes dissing people and erm “intimate confessions” as much as organising the odd private party !)

April 17, 2008 at 5:46 pm #1160574Just tricks of the trade 😉
GeoIP isn’t always that accurate, for a long while it used to insist my IP was in Norfolk, though it’s now decided on Leicester (still wrong, just not so wildly wrong !)
Your one is almost certainly Suffolk though. Whois has it as an ex-NTL cable IP in their Colchester network area, so in the same rough area as GeoIP reckons.
