any good? much difference between can and bottle? always get bottles but times be hard.

by no ale from the can do you mean pale ale type stuff? I only ask as I always put bitter down as a type of ale. Think I will have to stick to bottles then, it is as I feared

i find with canned beer/ale/stout/bitter it has a strange ‘twang’ to it, where as bottles don’t, i recon cans have additives in to stop the alcohol from reacting with the ali.

will keep a look out for that. I dont really have a fav, some nice local stuff being brewed round here that you can get in the pubs.

July 14, 2011 at 8:00 pm #1242156i got a boxset from Rhemney brewry in carphilly a while ago……fuck me, i ain’t that heavy a drinker! On of the ales was 6.9%!!!! Was bloody nice but a wee bit too strong. It as so came with a coffee ale, which, as a non coffee drinker, i thought was rank, there was a very nice pale ale, was so light and flavoursome, need to get another boxset….minus the coffee ale :yak:

do you tend to go for the pale ales and lighter rather than dark ones?
July 14, 2011 at 8:15 pm #1242157generally i do, i drink ale for pure pleasure. If i’m on the razz but don’t want to drink my usual pilsner (becks), i go for a either abbot, bombadier, or a badger ale; mainly fursty ferret lol.
The real daaark ale isn’t my cuppa tea, i find the sit a bit heavy, as opposed to the pale stuff, which doesn’t make me feel like i drunk concrete mix lol

there is lots of good pale ale in Suffolk and Essex – such as Tolly Roger and Crouch’s Brewers Gold but I’m not sure if it can be found in SE England. Tolly Roger in fact only turns up at two pubs in Ipswich most of the time.

I’ve acctually heard of Tolly Roger, a friend of mine from maidenhead used to drink it whenever he would vacation in your neck of the woods. No, alas here in the S.E. We don’t get Crouch’s brewers gold, let alone any Crouch’s ales. The chiltern brewery has some rather fantastic ales and ciders round here, if your ever around the chilterns i recommend sampling some!
