i don’t know if anyone else here ever has to write funding applications for their job?
I’m trying to rescue a small charity I took over in August from bankruptcy. It’s a great organisation and does valuable work with young people.
The government have released funds for this type of work, by setting up and organistion called V, but as always with gvt funding, it’s a nightmare…. the criteria have been announced with virtually no notice for the deadline for applications. I’ve got us through to the second round in 2 strands of the fund
now i’m trying to complete the forms within another tight deadline
for 1 ‘priority’ I have to answer 28 seperate questions in a box that is A4 size… even though it has taken them 3 pages to write the questions
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
why oh why are they do they make it so difficult?
anyone know what I’m on about?

i don’t know if they are C***s… but they are a consultancy firm who have no knowledge or experience of the relevant field
farking govt could have commissioned a cash-strapped charity such as mine that has ample experience and understanding of the sector. but no. let’s pay someone to parachute in an make a dog’s dinner of it

last bit of funding we had from this we over achieved our targets, ahead of time, under budget
the fund comes in 3 payments. 50% at the start, 40% after 6 months and 10% on successful completion. the project ends this week and we’re still waiting for the 40% payment from 6 months ago… it’s actually one of the reasons we’re close to going bust… the grants officer has lost our project reports TWICE… 6 months later I’m still waiting for a cheque while redundancy hangs over the heads of 2 people
C**TS :head_bang
we’re talking about a cheque for about £15K… while the millenium doom and ID cards get £billions poured into them
it’s fucking sick. this is OUR hard earned taxes they are wasting / fucking up

October 16, 2007 at 8:50 am #1122600The swearing about the paperwork is a common complaint in all charitable fields up here. That and the fact that you need to write a slightly different version for each goverment body :you_crazy and then they are useless at keeping their end on track :get_you:

October 16, 2007 at 11:47 am #1122593Dunno if this is a “British disease” I’ve found that in both public and private sectors you get people who are actually trying to sabotage the project they are working on for various reasons (sometimes only known to themselves) – they do things like lose files, delay vital information, sometimes even damage or sabotage vital equipment etc and can be found in all grades of an organisation..
it only takes a few people like that to slowly destroy a project or even the organisation, and everyone loses in the end, from customers to staff and investors or taxpayers (
maybe it does happen in other countries but I’ve dealt with lots of other nations businesses over the years and noticed it most with British companies, maybe thats also why we lose so much work to foreign countries..
IMO people like that are no better than the criminals and terrorists, OK they may not use physical violence but I think the mindset is the same – they are ultimately fucking up loads of peoples lives yet taking salaries from the companies…

October 16, 2007 at 1:45 pm #1122597what really makes me angry is that a consultancy firm called Tribal have been commissioned to carry out this particular grant-making. They have no experience in this field. I’ve found myself actually having to explain their own terminology to them
they aren’t able to weed out poor performers because they simply don’t understand the current issues, strategies, legislation, good practice or even their own terminology
