Richard Whitely was one of those people you hated to love; his jokes were the kind that your Dad would tell in front of your mates. He made you cringe, but that cringe was to disguise a smile. Daytime TV will never be the same again, Countdown was a huge part of my university time- in our house we played rude Countdown where you could only have rude words or words that sounded rude. RIP Richard and sympathy to his family and friends.

Northern Ireland is a cool place with loads of up for it people, the scene is small but energetic as you say. Everyone knows everyone and the parties are more like social clubs. There isnt really an outdoor scene as the weather is too unpredictable but were hoping to get something going regularly if our first venture gets off the ground.

There is a few scenes going on over here, the first I would mention would be the techno scene, its not the biggest but its the best IMO (nothing to do with the fact that it wouldnt exist without me and my mates since no one else is putting on nights) there is a fairly big psy trance scene and a bit of a drum and bass scene, although its mostly wanky intelligent d+b instead of the straight down the line hard as f**k stomping music. Mostly though as Im sure happens everywhere the biggest scene is the Ben Sherman shirted hard house scene where assholes go to get pissed and start fights. Thats fine though cause it keeps them away from the rest of us.

There has been a 3 day festival on Rathlin Island off the north coast each year for the last 5 or so years. Its been getting steadily bigger, the first year I went there was about 500 people, then 1000 the next year, and 2000 last year. Last year’s event was more like a Godskitchen or something like that as it attracted a load of posers and a few people were trying to brawl with anyone who would rise to their bait. The organisers are considering abandoning it now which would be a huge shame.
