Pretty much like he says (apart from the bits about the Turbosound equipment – Turbo’s are the mutts nuts IMO…).

Ill explain myself, the tdx215’s i have used are good cabs they do produce a good sound however they are setup, powered and used incorrectly so are unreliable (that would happen to any speaker from any brand). The TDX range are aimed at the very high end mobile dj/small club market, get enough of them and power them correctly (in terms of amplifer watts and mains power watts) and they will hoof it out.

ok here is my 2 cents,

          buy two 0f these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Turbosound-TXD121-12-2Way-PA-Speaker?sku=606040

power it with one of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crown-XTI-4000-Power-Amplifier?sku=481590V

This amp is good for a number of reasons, it means you dont need a crossover as it has a dsp built in, light weight and stupidly cheap (50% of what it is in the uk). It also mean if you want to buy another set of tops at a later date it can easily power them with enough headroom.

          buy 2 of these

          http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Turbosound-TXD215-2×15-Subwoofer?sku=606044

          Powered by one of these

          http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crown-XTI-2000-Power-Amplifier?sku=481589

That comes in at just over $4000, in reality you will also need a flightcase for the amps ($89) and some decent speaker cable ($90).

When time/funds allow maybe you could add another 2 of the same bass bins and amp and set of tops.

I have had experience with these bass bins in a local club, they have been using 2 txd 215’s for a 600 capacity venue and breaking them every other week. However this is only due to the fact that the dj redlines a shit mixer that is then fed into an amp that is not got enough headroom in it. If they added more subs, say another 2, then they wouldnt have to be ragged as hard to get the required spl and wouldnt blow all the time. On the upside they do sound nice when they are working.

You could also go down the route of getting some speakers built by someone from here:

          http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/Builders.html

… the plans from that site are good and will offer the same if not better performance than the turbosound cabs. They are not brand name speakers so they cost less but you get better performance which is a win win situation.

As someone previously said read as much as you can before spending your cash on this stuff, learn about different types of speakers, how the specifications differ, how to set it all up (this is more hands on but you can get the idea of crossovers like the berhinger ultradrive and how they work) how everything plugs in, power requirements etc. Once you know a bit about it and what it all involves decide what you want to do e.g. cater for x amount of people, so i need x amount of these speakers and x amount of amps to power them and work towards that goal. I myself have wasted money changing my plans on what i want to achieve.

Anyone can plug a speaker into an amp, but they will end up with a pile of crap (some mobile djs spring to mind). If you are going to get the simplest of rigs together it takes a lot of thought to do it properly but if you get it right it will sound spot on and serve you well for many parties to come.

Hope this hels, more of an essay than 2 cents :yakk:
