Just downloaded Traktor, having sold my decks and vinyl for financial reasons, and I do quite like it, but it feels quite alot like cheating, lots of things that were a practiced skill with vinyl are a couple of buttons on Traktor.
Anyone else use it?
What do you think?

Tbh I hadn’t been using my decks long at all, and now I’m a bit lost for things to do with the music other than mixing it. Got no tricks in my box 🙁

minimal techno and acid tech was/is my feather in my hat so to speak.
would get decks myself but theres fuck all minimal on vinyl, but acid tech is readily available
March 1, 2011 at 1:55 pm #1235735On vinyl I was mixing Jungle and D’n’B, but I’m on a bit of an electro/house/fidget thing at the moment, which really is a piece of piss to mix, it’s like music by numbers haha.

can’t be bothered to mix much at all anymore, i use it more for simple listening and turning the bpm up 10% 😉

Really good 4-deck console that interfaces perfectly with Traktor and is nicely laid out. I shalln’t mention what shop I got it off in case anyone’s lurking on here, but they only charged me £170 for it over the counter (list price on their website is £400! I didn’t realise until I got home and checked!). I was gonna reluctantly buy one of those plasticky behringer ones cos I didn’t have much money.
Yeah, Traktor’s wicked. Tbh I don’t understand people whining about the auto-beatmatching function taking the skill out of DJing. Beatmatching on decks is a completely mechanical, uncreative process – true, it takes a while to learn – but ultimately it doesn’t add anything to the audience’s enjoyment, which at the end of the day is what DJing is about. Without that pain in the arse to worry about, you can do really creative stuff with cue points and looping, and you have 4 decks ffs, the possibilities are endless!
I can see why a DJ that’s been honing their beatmatching skills for years might be a bit pissed off tho when some spotty kid rocks up with a laptop and can mix better than them, but it’s just sour grapes. Having mixed on vinyl for nearly 10 years I can sympathise.
If Traktor had been around before vinyl and then the next day someone invented this really cumbersome way of mixing that involved wrangling a couple of big plastic discs into sync with each other by painstakingly altering their speed, no-one would bat an eyelid.

it’s a fair rant cos a lot of those vinyl whores do get on my nerves!!
i accept vinyl, cds, software w/e. though you have vinyl people who just do not accept the others and say stuff like ‘IT’S CHEATING’

No worries mate I didn’t take it that way, like p0ly what really gets on my tits is people telling me I’m not a “proper DJ” because I don’t use vinyl. Mainly people who don’t use anything at all!

The kind of people who say things like that are usually the biggest amateurs of all. They’re also likely to sit around listening to badly-produced breakcore and “IDM” on busted-up needles whilst redlining the mixer and remarking about how much warmer and more natural their vinyl sounds than “all that digital shite”. Ok, maybe a sweeping generalisation but I’ve met plenty of these sorts (and how the fuck do they think dance music is made anyway? A record doesn’t pop out of Cubase like a big toaster – it’s digital (WAV) in the first place!).
