If they’re taking the piss with the price and they are cowboys they’re going to be too worried about getting rumbled by trading standards to do anything stupid like threaten you. If you were going round the county doing dodgy jobs for people you’d want to keep a low profile, and certainly not hang around a job harassing the customers. However its more likely they’re just trying it on. Show them the signed contract and they surely can’t argue with it. Don’t pay them over the agreed price, threaten to get the police and trading standards involved if they’re being twats and then carry out the threat if they won’t listen. Good luck with it!

I drive past them all the time, we used to call them the salt and pepper pots when i was a kid. They’re well interesting to look at, i don’t think they’re ugly at all. I’m sure theres a thousand and one cool things they could do with them instead of knocking them down.

1 Full sized lamp post that got knocked over in a traffic accident outside my house and was asking for me to steal it and wire it up in my room.

I’m thinking, what the hell is there to do in luton as i moved here about 2 hours ago to start a job and now have 12 months to kill and i don’t know anyone. Anyone know of any decent nights in luton/places to meet new people? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I’d have a look on ebay, a couple of weeks ago someone was sellin a job lot of really high quality condensers but advertised them badly and they all went for about 50 quid (they were old german mics similar to schoeps CMCs and must hav been worth over 300 each). SE electronics do a entry level condenser called the 2200A which is apparently really good tho iv not heard one myself. Theres often a few on ebay going for cheap. Red5Audio also do decent budget condensers. Behringer stuff is generally good for the price (cos they rip off well known designs and its all made by slaves!).

Depends what u want to do it for. I’m pretty cynical about those sorts of courses and I think a lot of them only exist to make money out of people who want to be DJs, promising some sort of useful qualification at the end. If u just want to improve ur DJing/engineering/production skills then it could be very useful. If you’re actually wanting to “make it” as a sound engineer tho most courses are fairly useless as whatever qualification u get from the course won’t matter two shits to anyone in the industry.

I was lucky enough to get on a good sound recording course (just finished my second year at Surrey uni doing music and sound recording), I’ve learned so much about loads of aspects of recording but I’m still finding it really hard to get a studio placement anywhere for next year. The problem is every man and his dog wants to be an engineer/producer and studios don’t need to advertise jobs and can be completely unhelpful cunts just because they can.

I dunno what u want to be – if ur interested in dance music production then a course like the one in your link might be a good starting point as it gives u the basic knowledge for you then to go home and start making tunes. If you want to be an engineer I suggest u try loitering around studios and offering to make tea/run errands etc (its a cliche but its how a lot of people get their foot in the door).

A couple of years ago an old schoolmate of mine was checking in at an airport and when he was asked if he had anything on him he shouldn’t have he said, “nah, well just this grenade in my shoe…” The airport staff didn’t see the funny side; he was immediately arrested, fined and banned from the airport. And he missed his holiday. It made BBC national news.

I might be completely wrong but from what it looks like on the Maplin website the tweeter is actually 85W (i.e you can feed it with 85W of power, a pretty sensible figure for a tweeter). I think the 600W its referring to is when you’ve got it connected to the IEC 268-5 crossover mentioned on the webpage, so if you’re building a cabinet with 2 drivers in it, u can feed the cabinet with up to 600W without burning out the tweeter. The Maplin description is misleading, probably on purpose to make the thing seem more powerful than it actually is.

Windmill wasnt too loud tho, I think it was squeaking a bit, and the party was nice n loud and in a dome/tent thing anyway so it wasn’t a problem. One of the most amazing dawns, seeing the sun rise over the windfarm.
