I like DnB, ska/punk, dub and a bit of hip-hop. But the last month or so I haven’t listened to a single thing other than DnB. I think I’m addicted.

The best stuff for me is balls-out in-your-face intense hectic mental stuff that could kill a baby, or just the darkest, deepest, heaviest stuff possible. If I can feel the bass in my spleen I’m a very happy bunny.

sounds like exactly the stuff I like – as well as breakcore, stuff verging on gabba and other wrongness. Pity you weren’t at lakota last weekend, loads of that being played….

sorry for thread drift but there’s an important issue here as there are understandable worries about what happened.

cops were there because an incident had occured in the vicinity of the club which had led to a stabbing.

this gives them obvious good reason to stick their noses in, all clubs are thought to attract wannabe hardmen and they expect this sort of stuff to happen.

They have every legal right to walk into any premises to look for suspects and this existed long before new licensing laws.

when the cops went in they saw people who were openly racking up lines; these people were promptly nicked .

moral of this story – expect to see cops in any legal venue at short notice; particularly with society being increasingly violent. They are doing licensing checks all across UK anyway due to the new laws, and late night venues will be subjected to considerable scrutiny.

Don’t expect a “safe haven” in any legal venue unless you know its layout extremely well, and even then don’t be complacent!

Cops are now trained to look for odd activity in corners and are more confident about entering noisy pubs/clubs as their new radios work better in these environments due to the digital technology so they can call for backup easier.

unfortunately I guess this will go down as a black mark against the venue, although hopefully not too bad – after the man with the knife is the real criminal – its wrong to collectively punish innocents or essentially he wins twice – once by hurting his rival and once again by making life harder for the venue management.

fuckin hell, a stabbing?? i was speakin to Mike the manager yesterday and he didnt mention ne thing about it when we speakin about the nite. Alot of my gigs are in lakota and i hav only ever seen fighting once in there, pretty shocked that the door man didnt notice the geezer with a blade since they search pretty well normally.

it did not happen in the venue, it happened outside.

It was the decision of the cops to search lakota as well as (presumably) do an area search of the street – although they are using their normal powers would not be surprised if it was also thought of as a good evidence gathering opportunity on the venue.. knowing what cops can be like wouldn’t be surprised if they concentrated too many resources on the club search (the arrests for small posession are time-consuming and would divert resources from the area search for the attacker) and potentially let the real assailant get away…

thing is though if the guy does it again the cops still win – they may nick the knifeman but they can also say the venue is a “crime blackspot”. If cops there are anything like TVP are down our way they would happily see every urban music venue closed down 🙁

I would say however that I have not seen any trouble or even any flashpoints in Lakota with the current management, nor have I been told of any such incidents by my friends in Bristol, despite the venue being very crowded at times.

The incident that occured, even if it happened nearby, was clearly a problem due to social decay in the surrounding area and cannot be blamed on the venue or its management.

eat static are amazing. they did a live set at the lost vaugueness feild at glasto a few years back and they blew my mind. probably the most impressive live dance act ive ever seen, alongside reprazent at homeland.

orbital and the orb are wicked as well, but i find em really patchy. but as a vj i have to have a lot of respect for orbital, they were one of the first acts to have their own vjs that they brought on tour with them. not that they got any credit, but hey thats the biz. i htought their pink fluffy clouds tune at reading wouldnt have been half as potent without the visuals….

do you knwo the name of some orb tune that did quite well in the mid-late nineties that had a video of some people having massive speakers tested oin them till they went mental? the bass line kind of went “dum dudu dum dudu” i just realised that doesnt work in type. it had a vocal sample that was “now wait a minute” and a car screeching to a halt. i have down loaded shit loads of their stuff but its not in there, i despreately want to rob their video.

I’m really into Progressive House/Trance, also like DnB but cannot stand a lot of stuff you hear because it’s just noise. I prefer DnB thats Jazzed up, deep and atmos.

Also am a big fan of Oasis!

I listen to everything really, but im much more open minded with Electronic and dance music than rock music which im WAY more selective and critical of.
Apologise to any indie lovers out there, but i cannot STAND it its awful!!!
(but i respect your opinion and im not gonna sit here slaggin it off to you, i do that enough to my mates :groucho: (but they got their own back when they heard some gabba for the first time)).
