I vaguely remember the last few pirate broadcasts from the Ross Revenge in the 80s, chaps what did it were about the same age as me or just into their 30s. When Laser 558 had their supply chain shut off just before they gave up they sent a small boat close to the Ross Revenge – when close enough they did heave to, and then handed over the 558 kHz quartz to the Ross Revenge, so Caroline also came up on 558 kHz until they got raided by armed Dutch Post Office engineers! Now this is allocated to a Asian/multicultural station but of course 648 is now free..

incidentally this is a current Band II allocation in the Netherlands. (This is the FM radio with better audio quality) I am not sure which stations are NOS (like BBC) and which are commercial but just shows how badly the BBC hog the allocations here…
