One end of the “tunnel” emerges next to Tower Bridge on the banks of the Thames in London – the other is next to Brooklyn Bridge on the banks of New York’s East River.

Its a interesting housing, but the bit what makes it work is merely a digital video link on a private fibre optic circuit

To be fair this is fucking expensive kit and infrastructures (the link alone is equivalent to the power of 150 SDSL broadband circuits) [1]- fair play to the artist and project managers for letting the public play with it..

[1] and if you asked BT for such a circuit you would be talking about the cost of a small car just for line rental as well as about 50 grands worth of equipment at each end, plus the HD camera…

the fibre optic is there anyway, and it would only be used by the Soho media circuit for crap telly, so why not let the people use it?

Ah right I thought It was built especially for this. I imagined a huge fibreoptic cable being layed through the ocean bed soley for this.

Now Ive thought about It I get it now hehe.

near sennen in cornwall there’s an old stone hut with some tubes poking out the wall. the tubes were the original sub-atlantic communication lines. i’ve been there a few times and had a little shout down them but no-one ever answered back from noo yowk
