So I’ve just heard there is this genre called trap (get with the times grandma I know)
Can anyone explain what it is in really dumbed down lingo?
I surfed youtube listening to a few trap mixes and found nout but shit, Is it like dubstep the good tunes are few and far between right?June 11, 2013 at 12:43 am #1273973US hip-hop and dub mixed together isn’t it?? That’s what it sounds like anyway. Most of it sounds a bit pap to me but some of the old skool hip hop influenced ones without gangsta samples and vocals are alright.

June 11, 2013 at 8:28 am #1273983Basically it’s the instrumentals that would be used in your generic US hip-hop it’s starting to get used in grime in the UK as well. Almost every song is the same and it uses really tinny sounding snares with a rolling hi-hat pattern and it’s always really bassy. You’ll recognize it when you hear it. Personally i hate it and it’s increasingly played in London’s squat parties which is a massive shame because imo it’s not and never will be any part of the scene.
It’s listened primarily by hipster fags who turn up to squats after they’re mum dropped them off, calling all their hipster mates on their gold plated Iphone 5 saying how cool this is. Phone = Nicked Hipster = Scared/Upset

This is the only trap song i’ve ever grown to like, but that’s because i think the video is cool and i have some good memories from this song :weee:

Just last night I was at ICR-FM working on some kit and this really good reggae singer was performing and being interviewed and he said that if musicians write lyrics about liquor and drugs and money and disrespecting girls its hardly surprising that youths get bad ideas into their heads.
Trap is only allowed in the night on ICR-FM because of the swearing. one dude who plays it is a 45-50 year old white guy, I thought it was quite funny that he could play a track where they keep saying “nigger” on it as at any other time they’d think he was EDL type (he’s actualy a decent bloke and pro multiculturalism) and we’d get breached by Ofcom.
he once played this track with some girl saying “I’m a bad bitch” but because it was late and I was a bit tired I misheard it as “I’m a brood bitch”. (I do live in East Anglia after all).
