Although I like to listen to c-dance as well (and was reading about their history on their site) one thing I noticed is your show and Corstens Countdown which follows it are transmitted with the audio level too strong at the radio studio – so it hits the soundprocessing hard and the dynamic range is all reduced. But the copies you share here are better quality. Might be something to mention if you have station meetings etc which I guess you must do.

I’ve been reading the history of c-dance as well off the site, and stuff on radioforum.nl too, if you wish I can translate your personal profile off the C-dance site for the English readers, I feel that rather than do boring school type exercises I should try and use language skills to help others and break down any barriers caused by languages.. last week helped update the English manual for the freeplayer jingle machine…

I will try and listen out for any improvement. I see the issue from the other side as they were also discussing auto file conversion on radioforum.nl (which is fair enough as a bad file format will screw up the radio station automation software and cause big trouble, I used to work on this sort of stuff many years ago).

We actually do similar with PartyVibe Radio but to expand the bit rate and dynamic range – but we do not have to worry about sending too much bandwidth into a FM transmitter and getting trouble from post and telecoms ministry for interference with aircraft radios!

C-Dance’s engineers and producers are eligible to join EBU for free and get a lot of useful info. After all we are all Europeans and pay taxes for our national broadcasters, and this is also their payback to us (better than Eurovision song contest :laugh_at: ) There are good technical papers there which can explain far better than I could about how to get the “loudness” correct for online broadcasting and traditional broadcasting. Once it is at this correct level, the audio should be in the range to only hit the soundprocessing at extreme points and so the dynamic range of the mixes is preserved.

When I get some spare time I will share the EBU links anyway on the sound engineering forum here but if anyone is impatient look google for “Thomas Lund EBU” and all will be revealed. One thing the DJ’s on partyvibe radio and myself try to encourage is to go for the standards of the classical music station of our national broadcaster, not the “young peoples” station – because listeners to specialist dance music usually have as good equipment and appreciation of music as the old dinosaurus who listens to classical (actually I am sure Armin Van Buuren and Tiësto have classical training as well and much trance includes classical elements and even traditional instruments these days).
